Airman Robert Magee Jr of Carthage and Mr and Mrs Magee announce his promotion at Westover Air Force Base Massachusetts. Magee advances to Airman First Class in recognition of duties performed.
Rev Walter Wilkerson of Indianapolis will conduct special services at both morning and evening sessions next Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde E. Ruby and their children rented the Mrs. W. J. Phelps property on South Main as Mrs. Phelps left for Goshen. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Nelson moved this week into the late H. G. Con away property in Arlington.
Mr and Mrs Tom Williams welcome Robin Marie born February 8 in an Arizona hospital. She is the couple's daughter and great granddaughter of Mr and Mrs George Moore.
Lynn, five year old son of Mr and Mrs Albert Ray, was taken to Rush Memorial hospital for observation Monday evening. Another child, son of Mr and Mrs Lee Parsons, was admitted to Riley hospital for observation on Thursday.
Gene Mills, a local middleweight, falls to Ben Barnes of Elkhart by TKO in the third round of the finals at the Golden Gloves event in Muncie Tuesday night.
Rush Lodge No. 580 F and AM will hold its stated meeting next Tuesday night March 1. Secretary W H Barbour urges attendance and notes the regular session will convene as scheduled.
The Carthage Chapter No. 574 Eastern Star held a dinner at the Airport Inn Rushville honoring Laura Scott Worthy Matron and Ralph Truitt Worthy Patron. Attending were Mesdames Fancher Beck Nowotne Brooks Kennedy Clevidence Silver Hearne Piles Parish Moser Sipes Leibrandt Jordan Patterson King and others.
Stephen Hunt from Carth Indiana enrolled for the spring term at Taylor University in Upland Indiana. Taylor reports 492 students this year, up over 100 from 1953-54 second semester, with 21 new admits from seven states and one foreign country. It is a fully accredited four year college offering BA and BS in Education with 300 plus courses across 26 departments. Students hail from 32 states and several foreign countries, and 23 church groups are represented.
Local branch manager Mrs Anice Bly says the February 28 deadline for 1954 plates and chauffeur licenses is near. Buyers must obtain new registrations by midnight to avoid penalties, with delays risking lateness into the final hours of the deadline.
Josiah Binford and James Mc George came back Friday from St. Cloud Florida. Mr and Mrs Oliver Earnest returned Saturday from St Cloud Florida. Mr and Mrs George Moore returned from Tempe Arizona on Thursday and report a fine trip with good weather.
Dean Addison earned a first division rating for his alto saxophone performance "Carnival of Venice" at the All-State contest at Butler University. Janet Hunt accompanied him, with Shirley Smith earning a Division II rating for "Carnations" and Janet Hunt a Division III rating for Chopin Etude Op 12 No 10.
The Morristown Yellow Jackets edged the Carthage Raiders 60 to 57 to close Carthage’s regular season. McCorkle scored 25 for Carthage but random final seconds sank the Raiders as Edwards fouled and Morristown held the lead. The junior varsity also won 47 to 38.
The Carthage Lions Club invites the public and local groups to a 7:30 p.m. screening of Dust To Destiny at the Community Center next Monday. The Indiana National Bank of Indianapolis backs the program as a public service feature. W A Dhonan chairs the committee predicting a large turnout with Camera Club School Faculty and Business Men of Carthage among those invited.
Indiana 4-H plans National Club Week March 5 12 to push enrollment to 85 000 for 1955 led by Harold B Taylor Purdue University. The program uses displays radio TV and local meetings with 37 projects and noted past year figures for agricultural and home economics enrollments. Local leaders and junior leaders support 4-H growth as open to ages 10 20 with enrollment cards via county extension offices.
Lafayette Indiana gardeners can grow a dozen tomato plants to supply a family from June to November. Early varieties like Fireball Stokesdale and Valiant mature quickly and endure summer into fall, while later ripening types such as Purdue 1361 Rutgers Komomo and Margrobe favor late summer and fall crops. Dense foliage protects fruit from sunburn and supports a full red ripe harvest.
County extension officials report 204 calves nominated by 45 members for the Hoosier Gold Medal Calf project led by Henry Mayo Purdue. Angus 84 head Hereford 66 Shorthorn 50 Red Poll 4. Carthage Blue Raiders survived a tight 56-54 win over Mays in their sectional opener as McCorkle and Campbell led with 14 points each, Edwards 12 and Watkins 10. Hall topped Mays with 15 as Buchanan fouled out late in a hard fought game.
Cpl James P Cooley has received his discharge and is at the home of Mr and Mrs Ben Neal after service in Anchorage Alaska. Iris Jessup widow of Mannard Jessup died at her Kennard home after weeks of illness with three children among survivors Funeral services were held at Condo Funeral Home Wilkerson with burial in Glencove cemetery Knightstown Attendees included Cecil Pike Gertrude Jessup Bill Ewing Albert Terhune Anna Jessup and Della Pearson.
Nolan Bogue 60 died suddenly at his Arlington home Friday afternoon. A World War I veteran born July 25 1894 in Jackson Township he was the son of Riley and Carrie Downey Bogue. He married Pearl Gordon Walker December 21 1940. Surviving are his wife three sisters Lora Gurley Arlington Ruth Brown and Lillie Gephart Shelby County. Funeral services were held at the late residence by Rev R C Buck at 2 pm Monday with burial in Arlington cemetery.
Mrs Henry L Stinger fractured a bone in her foot according to a brief medical update.

New 3 ring layout and lower 50 cent public price for children. 30 acts from top circuses, nightly parade, local Shrine volunteers running details, proceeds to Shrine charities including Crippled Children’s Hospitals.
