Joseph E. Porter postmaster and Mrs. Porter attended a postmasters meeting Sunday in Spice land. Clyde E. Ruby local grocer and meat cutter sustained a painful finger injury Monday while operating an electric meat grinder.
Walter Nelson was admitted to Rush Memorial Hospital on Sunday for observation and X ray tests.

A daughter named Nancy Ann Long was born Friday February 4 at St. Francis hospital in Beech Grove to Floyd and Mrs. Long of Greenfield. The mother is formerly Alice Gates of Carthage. Baby weighs 7 pounds 14 ounces.
Town Marshal Hugh Trowbridge investigated a crash at 3rd and East streets around noon Monday involving William Springman of Carthage in a southbound Oldsmobile and Robert Roache of Indianapolis in a westbound 1955 Ford station wagon. Damages were estimated at 200 dollars for Springman and 150 for Roache, with icy snow on the streets.
The Carthage Church of the Nazarene hosts World Day of Prayer for Carthage and community on Friday February 25 1955. Three short topics will open with Rev H M Myrich I Believe in Prayer by Walnut Ridge Church and Promises Related to Prayer by Rev Sommer plus specials by the Christian church. The Junior Choir by the Wesleyans will perform and all are invited to attend and unite. Mrs Alice Myrich chairs the event.

Eugene W. Cole 61 of Morristown was found dead in his car after it left the road and struck a fence, apparently from a heart attack. The trucker and stock buyer died Friday near Gwynneville. Survivors include his widow Mrs. Ernestine Nigh Cole, four children, his Shelbyville mother, and a sister. Funeral held Tuesday at the residence. interment at Asbury Cemetery.
Mrs Jack Overman underwent major surgery at Rush Memorial hospital last Thursday. Mrs Fred Sandefur entered Rush Memorial hospital last Thursday for major surgery.
An unexpected drill at the school building Thursday cleared in one minute and 27 seconds after the alarm. Marshal Trowbridge said students were well trained for the exercise.
The state basketball sectional pairings place Carthage against rival Mays in the Rushville area draw. Rushville faces a tough road to the title, likely needing wins over four strong county teams. complete drawings show matchups including Hope versus Clifford and Shelbyville versus Morral Two with winners advancing to later rounds.

Adult leaders met at the county extension office for their monthly training. Officers elected for the year include President Mrs Robert Osting Vice President Mrs Owen Long and Secretary Mrs Lowell Horton. Attendance reached 21 with Miss Lenore Foster present.
The automatic flashers at the First Street railroad crossing of the New York Central were finished and turned on Tuesday. A Lions Club working committee and other groups led a long effort to add the safety device due to the crossing being a hazardous route to school buildings. The lights will flash during train switches too, so pedestrians and drivers must exercise extreme caution when crossing if the lights are on.
Dr. Paul T. McNabb dentist died Tuesday morning at the Veterans Hospital in Wood Wisconsin. He is survived by his widow Carolyn and five children Susan Kay Gary Thomas and Alan all of Fort Wayne Indiana. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at Wood Wisconsin with Dr and Mrs George McNabb in attendance.
Dr. and Mrs. Richard McNabb and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Tweedy returned Monday night from a two week trip to Florida. They visited Key West, Fort Lauderdale, and Sarasota during their stay.
Ralph Gard died Wednesday evening in Rushville after an illness. He was father of Robert Gard and husband of Ruth Bramel Gard.
Carthage defeats New Salem 59 to 52 at Noble township court to reclaim the Goodluck horseshoe trophy amid a lineup shakeup with four varsity players sidelined. Carthage led most of the game, held a 18-11 edge early, then saw New Salem rally to 37-36 by third, before Carthage exploded for 23 in the final period to seal both the varsity and seconds wins.
Mrs Olive Robinson of Pine Lane Farm near Richmond died Tuesday. She belonged to West Richmond Friends church and had ties to several activities. A graduate of Earlham College she also studied at Bryn Mawr. She is survived by son Charles of Richmond daughter Mrs C W Edmunds of Ann Arbor Mich a grandson a granddaughter a niece and by Francis Robinson and the Henleys as sons and daughter in law respectively.
Loyall Hunt has accepted a salesman position with Indiana Merchandise of Indianapolis and began work this Monday.
Miss Sarah E Newby entered Rush Memorial hospital Sunday afternoon and was taken by Thompson ambulance for treatment of a heart ailment.
A Cub Scout Pack meeting will be held Tuesday February 22 at 7 30 p m in the Community Center basement. The new area representative will reorganize the pack if enough friends of the small fry attend and accept positions. Four dens are organized with four den mothers and many interested parents in Carthage.
The Carthage Lions Club hosted New Salem Lions for their annual Rush County Visitation. Walter J. Schuchmann spoke on the Army Finance Center at Ft. Harrison and its operations. Plans were announced for a Valentine Sweetheart Dance at the Community Center on February 19 with the Rush County sweetheart guest.
Noah Magee of Pendleton, a former Carthage resident and Delco Remy employee in Anderson, received a 1000 dollar Suggestion Award for December 1954. He was among 161 workers sharing over 10000 dollars in awards that month for adopted employee suggestions. Magee, who moved to Pendleton in 1950, enjoys radio television repair and electronics as a hobby.
The W C T U met Tuesday afternoon with Mrs Enid Burkher hosting. Prayers and devotions were led by Mrs Mild Nigh, the lesson by Mrs Thelma Cooper, followed by a discussion and light refreshments. Also mentioned are social attendees after a Butler Notre Dame game in Indianapolis.

Mays Lions Club celebrated ten years with 48 members and 16 original members active. Visiting were 22 Manilla Lions for inter-club visit as Deputy District Governor presented ten-year certificates and chevrons to charter members.
Charles O. Kennedy 74 died 7 p m Saturday at his home two miles southwest of Arlington after four years of ill health. Born March 22 1880 in Shelby County he lived most of his life in Rush County and resided at his present home 10 years. He married Bonnie Whitlock October 1 1908 and survives the widow two sisters and three brothers also a sister in law Mrs Ora Addison who lived with them 18 years. He was a member of the Arlington Christian Church.
Mrs Grant Henley was admitted to Rush Memorial Hospital for treatment and observation Wednesday afternoon. Guests for Wednesday dinner included Mr and Mrs Hubert Hunt and daughter Pamela with Mrs Mary Hoffman and Mrs Nelle Newby.
Rush County Republicans honored Abraham Lincoln at the annual Lincoln Day dinner at the Elks Club in Rushville. Indiana State chairman Alvin C. Cast urged party unity and warned of Communism, noting budget growth since 1925 and praising the Young Republican movement. Local attendees included Carthage residents and county officials, with Don Myers Twelve Girls chorus and Sue Keaton tap dancers providing entertainment.
