The Cooking School and Style Show by Carthage Radio Shop and Fair Lady Dress Shop is postponed to Friday night March 6 1959. The change is due to the Sectional Journey at Rushville. Tickets already bought are valid for the new date. Next week's paper will provide more details.
Mrs Beulah Osborne reports her car windshield and rear glass broken last Saturday night by bricks tossed from a passing vehicle. Neighbors Roscoe and Mrs Davis heard nothing. Town Marshal Trowbridge searched for clues but found none. Damages exceed $200 for replacement of windshield and back glass.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Weber of Carthage R. R. returned from a ten day vacation in Tarpon Springs Florida. Mr. Weber reported a comfortable temperature of degrees during their stay.
Mr and Mrs George Schuck work on redecorating and furnishing their Walnut Street home after a devastating oil stove fire. Smoke damaged most of the house and some furniture and furnishings.
Saturday night the M Y F gathered at Trinity Methodist Church Indiafapolis to start a new group with a chili supper and a program by the Asbury Quartet from Asbury College Wilmore Ky. Attendees included Mary Jane Blankenship Anita Leisure Sue Siler Carolyn Miller Jeannine Terhune Lynn Kennedy Judy Kennedy Beth Roberts Ethyl Kline Jim Terhune Dorothy Edwards Mrs Raymond Kennedy Mr Marvin Johnson and Rev Davis.
Regenia Pedigo of Rushville was chosen queen at the county sweetheart dance held Saturday night in Rushville Memorial Gym. Carthage participants included Miss Linda Lukens and several friends from Carthage school such as Myron Trowbre Ronnie Fannin Mary Beth Kuhn David Ruby Anne Campbell Jimmy Ellis Jr Becky White Sheryl Mosier Mike Watkins Karen Graff Joe Foust Cathy Ruby and Orbie Dor Fitch.
The Meth odist Youth Fellowship met Monday at 7 PM in the church. Jean nine Terhune presided as business meeting began. March 7 market plans were set for the Citizen Office with scripture by Beth Roberts and prayers led by Rev. Davis. Re fosters were served and acting secretary Beth Roberts recorded notes.
The Junior 4H group met on Wednesday February 18 with the 4 H pledge led by Ronnie Jones and the American pledge led by Mike Gorman. Charles Campbell led songs and members asked questions about craft. The next meeting is scheduled for March 3, 1959.
Mrs James Geise was admitted to Henry County Hospital last Friday evening for observation and X rays. She is in room 212.
A February update from Carthage High School covers student conduct and teacher roles, junior high and freshman basketball results, a Big Moe and Band concert, kindergarten activities, Father Shanahan’s convocation, a corrected score line for Jackson Township, a legislature visit by students, and multiple grade school news items including Valentine parties and geography lessons.
Mrs Pearson a Carthage School fourth grade teacher attended DePauw University earned a Bachelor of Science from Butler University and did graduate work there She has twenty two years in teaching twelve at Carthage Also taught at Morton and Jackson Township Member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Kappa Kappa Sigma Mr and Mrs Pearson reside on R R 2 Carthage.
County GOP Chairman Richard A. Phillips presided at the Lincoln Day banquet held at the Rushville Elks Club with about 150 attendees. Carthage represented by Mr and Mrs Ralph Truitt, Mr and Mrs Royce Joseph, Junior Bever, Charles Fairchild, Mr and Mrs Robert McKain, Mr and Mrs Fred Parish, and Mr and Mrs Wayne Draper. Indiana Commissioner of Revenue Edwin A Beaman of Princeton was the principal speaker.

Upper bracket games list two pairings for Wednesday including Mount Summit against Mooreland at 1 15 and Sulphur Springs versus New Castle at 2 30 followed by Spiceland facing Middletown at 7. Lower bracket Thursday features Straughn versus Knightstown at 7 and Lewisville versus Cadiz at 8 15.
Friday games feature Southport and Fortville, New Palestine at Decatur Central, Sacred Heart at Greenfield, Hancock Central at Southport, Howe at Franklin Two, McCordsville at Indpls. Wood, and Beech Grove at Indpls. Manual with 12 15 pm start times.
IHSAA in Indianapolis announced near perfect draws for the 64 sectional setup. Berne starts Adams Central sectional while Charlottesville joins Rushville. New Castle Knights may clash in Indianapolis semis with Crispus Attucks and Shortridge in contention. Most Hancock teams at Southport. Wilkinson at Madison Heights.

Charles McPeak 43 formerly of Carthage Indiana died Monday night in Laurel Mississippi after surgery and illness. Survived by wife Louise daughter Judy two sons Charles Arthur Johnnie mother Clara Bowden half sister Norma Brooks and stepfather Arthur Bowden all of Carthage. Mrs Bowden and daughter Mrs Brooks traveled to Mississippi after notification.
The Carthage Band Boosters discussed lunch plans for county band members attending the County Band Festival on March 13 in Rushville. The meeting at the school building was led by President Edna Kennedy with reports from Secretary Frances Terhune and the treasurer.
George Apple plans an eighteen lot addition north of Rose Hill between the town line and Mays road. Surveying by Herman List will lay out a street linking with Watson Street with nine lots per side. Apple has four lots sold. water mains and street maintenance will be provided after annexation, work set to begin in spring.
A community meeting at the Carthage Community Center formed the Adult Wheels Skating Club with William Fred Magee as president and Bill Windsor as vice president. Betty Brooks was elected secretary treasurer. monthly meetings planned. one dollar dues. about fifty members expected.
At the Purdue State Junior Corn Growers Jamboree Shelby County produced a top 207 bushels per acre on a sandy silt loam with a four year rotation. The White County Brookston soil yielded 201 bushels per acre after October plowing and nitrogen incorporation. The Funk Bros Seed Co sponsors the project with plans to move toward a 304 bushel goal. Local demonstrations and Future Farmers planning sessions wrap the event. Leonard Jackson also placed creditably at the Hoosier Spring Barrow Show in Indianapolis.
