Public events for the coming week in New Salem area

Upcoming activities include a New Salem-Carthage baseball game on Friday at New Salem and a Monday night project at Carthage Community Center featuring Rev Frank Guyatt showing Olympic photographs. Tickets are available from Carthage School grade four to six students. A public hat party is planned Wednesday February 22 at the Commary Center by the Legion Auxiliary. A sectional tourney runs Thursday Friday Saturday at Rushville Memorial Gym with Carriage playing Thursday night.

Alva Porter, son of Mr and Mrs Joseph Porter, returned home from Robert Long Hospital after eye surgery. Hattie Porter entered Rush Memorial Hospital Saturday following three weeks convalescing at home. Flora Hunt remains at Jackson Nursing Home. Warnie Mann of R 2 Carthage entered Rush Memorial Hospital Saturday. Fred Brooks at Echo Hill Nursing Home Laurel remains the same. Noah Leisure convalescing at home. Ross Tweedy returned home Sunday from Community Hospital Indianapolis. Mrs Stanley Hawkins is improved from last week.

Carthage Lions Club Chooses Girls State Sponsor

The Carthage Lions Club met at the Community Center for their regular dinner meeting Monday night. They agreed to co sponsor the local representative at Girls State this year and reported on the Lions Regional Meeting held recently.

Purdue Glee Club Performs at Connersville School Auditorium

The Purdue Glee Club gave a public concert at the Connersville School Auditorium drawing attendees from Carthage area including Mike Whitfield and Craig Lafuse. Two members pledged into Delta Upsilon at the event and a Kiwanis reception followed with performances by local students.

Art Smith joins Soil Conservation Service trainee program

William P. Martin of the Soil Conservation Service Indiana unit announces Art, a January Purdue University agriculture graduate, as a Spring trainee. Art, 22, from a Dayton beef cattle farm, has 4-H experience and will live with his brother near Shelbyville during training. He previously served as a Soil Conservation Student Trainee at Lebanon, Ohio.

Weekend Guests Visit Behalf of Mrs Farrell in Indiana

New Salem Wins Junior High Tourney Narrowly Over Morton

In the junior high tourney at gin and Morton, New Salem defeated Milroy and Moscow to reach the final. Brown led Mays with 27 points in a 44-19 loss for Carthage as New Salem edged Morton 43-40 in a close semifinal. New Salem’s starters played the entire game without substitutions.

Raiders Split Two Games In Effort Against Carthage

Raiders and Carthage battled to a 69 66 final as Carthage could not buy a basket at times. Hothand Smith led Raiders with 24 points while Milroy paced Carthage with strong drives and zone work. Strong second quarter push gave Raiders a 53 48 edge at halftime.

Needletwisters Meet for 4 H Club Gathering

Thirty nine members and two guests attended the 4H Needletwisters meeting after school in the Home Ec room. Teresa Deboard led the pledge with Danielle Roland reciting the 4H pledge. Sharon Hickey and Melinda White demonstrated chocolate brownies. Officers Training will be March 3 at Carthage School. The group planned a skit for the Share The Fun contest and will practice February 20 after school at the Community Center. Refreshments were served.
