The Brotherhood and Sisterhood of Carthage will meet Monday February 17 at 7 30 p m at the Community Center. All members and newcomers are invited to attend and support the group.
Mr and Mrs Albert Terhune and their sons attended a Taylor University band concert at the gymnasium. Their daughter Jeannine is a band member. Jeannine and friend Alice Dick returned for the weekend and the family later visited Loren White of Greenfield.
Carthage Chapter No. 574 O E S held a Wednesday meeting electing Edna N. Kennedy as Worthy Matron and Ralph Truitt as Worthy Patron for the coming year. Other officers named include Hazel Alexander Paul Clevidence Rachel King Leone Mosier Grace Pitts Lavada Wilson. Installation tentatively set for March 20 and cookies sent to the Masonic Home on March 1. Refreshments served to a good turnout.
Mrs Russell Leisure improves at Major Hospital in Shelbyville. Mrs Harold Dixon returns home from the Clinic in New Castle. Mrs Velma Todds returns home from Rush Memorial Hospital. Mrs Grace Gurley remains about the same at Rush Memorial Hospital. Robert S Moore admitted to Rush Memorial Hospital Wednesday.
The Carthage Lions Club held a Monday dinner at the Community Center. President James Wells led the business meeting, Thomas Shields delivered the secretary's report, and the Carthage School Triple Trio performed several vocal numbers.
The Parents beat the Teachers 57 to 53 in a spirited local gym contest sponsored by the Parent-Teachers Organization. J Edwards led with 10 points, while R Edwards scored 18 and G Roland added 15 for the winners amid a lively crowd and pep rally by Sue Ann Land.
Carthage Junior High defeats Morton 43 to 37 in overtime to claim the Northern Rush County Tournament crown at Arlington after trailing most of regulation. Wilson leads Carthage with 11 points as Eder coached Morton roars back to force an extra session. Morton had upset advantages earlier in the day and in recent matchups, with Hartley and Campbell scoring for Morton while Wilson, Lafuse, and Edwards pace Carthage.
On Wednesday February 19 at 7 30 p m the Carthage Community Association will meet at the Community Center inviting all interested residents to attend this new local group.
Mr and Mrs Hubert Hunt and Mr and Mrs Ralph McClarnon of here attended the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Concert at Clowes Hall Sunday afternoon. Pam Hunt of Butler University joined them for dinner at Holly Hill that evening.
The Community World Day of Prayer will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at the Carthage Methodist Church. The public is invited to attend with special music provided by the school.
The Goodwill truck will be in Carthage on Wednesday morning February 19. Mrs Gouldie Kyser requests donors bring items to her home by Tuesday evening or early Wednesday.
No. 20 Junior High Basketball Tourney opens at 1:15 p m Saturday with Carthage facing Milroy for Rush County crown after northern and southern area champions meet. Doors at 12 30 p m admission 50 cents. Trophy to champion and runner up band events and senior awards planned at community center and school activities across the week.
Junior sponsors a two night event with after game meals and a soc hop. Friday offers sandwiches and Saturday features meatloaf with two ballgames and post game dancing for Raider fans.
Arthur Malson of Rushville announced his candidacy for County Auditor in the Republican May primary. He is completing his first term and seeks re election. A member of St Pauls Methodist Church Kiwanis Club Masonic and Elks lodges he said it has been a privilege to serve the people of Rush County and he would continue the same service if elected.
Raymond Muir of Carthage Indiana earns an expense-paid trip to Quincy Illinois for a three day get acquainted and informational meeting on February 3 4 and 5. He advanced in selling and completed a basic customer service training step. He toured Moorman Mfg Co plant and learned about products research programs and future plans with staff and administration. The visit included a dairy unit tour and twin cow testing. Mr Muir is a farmer with wife and three children Tommy Allen Linda Joyce Billy Edward. Mrs Muir is Maine Magee’s daughter of Carthage.
Mr and Mrs William Kinnett of Dillsboro were Saturday afternoon and evening guests of Mr and Mrs Stanley Hankins, sharing time at their home and social visit.
Herbert Oran Henley 90 a telephone system pioneer and photographer died at noon Saturday at his home in Carthage. He helped launch the Ripley Farmers Telephone Co and built a famed Knightstown studio later retiring in 1953. He was born June 14 1873 and is survived by Pearl Watkins Henley widow and son Kurtz Henley. Burial at Riverside Cemetery followed services Tuesday.
Clarence Eugene Sammy Tuttle 60 died suddenly at his home 203 North Market Street Carthage at 6 30 a m Wednesday from a heart attack He worked at Alsta Containers Inc served as chauffeur for Mrs Henry Stager He is survived by wife Louise Taylor daughter Clara Hopsgood Richmond brother Charles Tuttle Richmond three grandchildren three nephews and two nieces Funeral services set for Friday 2 p m at Hampton Mortuary Riverside Cemetery burial to follow.
The Mixers Home Ec Club observed Family Night on Sunday February 9 at the Community Center with 38 attendees enjoying a cooperative dinner and Progressive euchre during the social hour. Mr Howard Linville earned the highest score among participants. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Howard Linville Mr and Mrs Lewis Lafuse Mr and Mrs Robert White Mr and Mrs Marvin Johnson Mr and Mrs Robert Nigh Mr and Mrs Robert Wright Mrs James Whitfield Mr and Mrs Duard McDaniel and families. Mrs Odell Pitts and daughter Maryin shopped at Glendale Shopping Center on Saturday.
