Despite severe weather the Quarterly Meeting at Little Blue River Friends church drew twenty five attendees from that church the largest delegation from a distance. Visitors included Errol T Elliott of Richmond and Frank Chant of Farmland Ind with other ministers from the area.
The east end of the Gwynneville United Brethren Church suffered extensive damage Sunday afternoon after a fire started near 1:00 pm. Mrs. George Nigh alerted firefighters. Morristown crews saved the adjoining home as winds threatened spread. Damage to the church is estimated at about $600.
Pauline Driffil aged 26 a Fortville native died February 3 in an Anderson hospital from diphtheria contracted after delivering twins on January 24. Survived by husband, father Lon Ellis of Ladoga, two sisters Mrs Jack Rawlings of Indianapolis and Mrs Ora Myers of Ladoga, and brother Charles El of Ladoga. The twins are reported well in hospital.
Republican chairmen from all counties in the district except Union gathered at a February 6 dinner at the Pearce tea room in Rushville. Elmer Crull of Richmond chaired the business session after the banquet and resolutions expressed regret over the death of Ray Pittenger, Delaware County chairman and county treasurer.
Mr. and Mrs. George Cameron and son Floyd Cameron of Rushville and Lucien Bever of New Salem escaped danger when a Warrour river bridge and about twenty yards of road collapsed into floodwaters as they crossed. Rev Boyd E Tryon from Connersville gave the devotional. Over sixty league members attended. The dean announced February 16 as the institute’s final day.
Miss Ada Von Publow among twelve girls awarded trips to the Purdue roundup at the annual Rush county 4-H club Achievement day held Saturday at St. Paul's M E church in Rushville. Two new clubs, Needle Twisters of Ripley township and the Glenwood 4-H club, were chartered bringing total Rush county clubs to fourteen. After the program, guests enjoyed Valentine season refreshments in the church basement.
Last rites were given Monday for Jake Daddy Gardner of Morristown who died Saturday morning at age 78 due to complications from advanced age. Born January 13, 1858, he is survived by a sister in Homer and several half brothers in Homer Gwynneville Indianapolis and New York City. Burial followed at Asbury Cemetery with funeral director L. V. Hauk in charge.
Russell Looney a 35 year old man from Union Township was found dead about 1 30 Sunday morning after his car struck a utility pole on State road 44 east of Rushville Coroner R O Kennedy cited an external hemorrhage from a neck injury caused by glass from the car door.
J. T. Tarbet, Rush County treasurer, seeks re election on the Republican ticket for the May 5 primary. Elected in 1934, he cites eligibility to succeed himself and calls for voter support, noting efficient office management and his experience.
Mary Houston and Donald Ryan were married in a simple Saturday ceremony at the Arlington M E parsonage. Rev Gladys Marsh officiated with Virginia Houston, Laurel Gardner and Bill Bradburn present. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs Joe Houston, graduated Arlington High School class of 1932. The groom is son of Charles Ryan of Rushville. The Ryans will reside on West Fifth Street in Rushville.

Mrs. O. P. Dunn returns home after two months of serious illness at Methodist Hospital Indianapolis. Her condition is much improved and friends wish her a speedy recovery.
Forty pupils aboard a Rushville township hack headed to Webb grade school inhaled carbon monoxide from a broken exhaust. Four students Betty Pea Carlos King Paul Mosburg and Dorman Reed were taken home after on site medical care by Dr Frank Green Jr. Readiness and early detection prevented serious injuries despite widespread exposure.
Rush county real estate forfeited for unpaid taxes went on sale at the courthouse Monday morning. Treasurer James Tarbet said only a small portion of the delinquencies were bought, with several being removed since the listing was published. Early Monday funds were collected in the treasurer’s office from owners of land slated for sale.

Carthage residents will see the opening of McDaniel and Bradford Store on Thursday February 20 in the S L Newsom building. The redecorated storefront will offer a complete line of floor coverings window shades curtains and material plus clothing and hosiery with low prices and easy access to local shoppers. Their move to Carthage is aimed at boosting local business and avoiding trips to other towns.

Charles Curtis of Kansas former vice president of the United States died at his Washington home after a heart attack on Saturday February 8. He had retired from the vice presidency and lived with his sister and brother in law Edward and Mrs Gann. Curtis served sixteen years in the House and four in the Senate representing Kansas.
A 40 ton excavator on a truck trailer ran through a bridge one and a half miles from Marietta Friday evening. Three men escaped injury and no removal efforts were started by Saturday morning. The machine is slated for use on Shelbyville's new courthouse construction.
