High School Honors Dickens Opening Exercise

A high school program Wednesday morning commemorated the hundredth anniversary of Charles Dickens. The event featured songs, biographies, readings, piano duets, papers, and dialogues performed by students including Lavohne Ruby, Esther Williams, Elizabeth Winslow, Miriam Rutherford, Lillian Kennedy, Ada Smith, Dorothy Sipe, May Norris, and Hamme D. Henley. Visitors attended and praised the pupils and teachers for their creditable efforts.

Mrs R T Moore Recovering Amid Illness

Mrs R T Moore was taken seriously ill Saturday but is improving. Miss Theresa Bundy of Prineville writes her grandfather William Bundy that she has completed the first semester of her third year in high school and passed all exams with an average grade of 90. Mrs Bundy and son Arthur are at their ranch where a new two story home 16 by 16 is described as a typical western ranch house. Mr Bundy and daughter live in Prineville.

Lost school bond found and council actions set

The Carthage town council opened preliminary steps after a nine year vanished schoolhouse bond No 7 was presented through Chase Bank New York and then returned to the town. A committee led by W L Walker R E Henley and J A Lineback will investigate and pay if valid while Newby and Newby were reappointed as town lawyers. The board also formed a committee to place several large cisterns as water in firefighting needs.

Death of Mrs Martha Winslow at Fairmount

Mrs Martha Winslow dies at her Fairmount home after a long illness she was near 86. She was wife of Walker Winslow who died in 1911 and survived by eight children including J F Jones Jabez N Winslow John H Winslow Kiah Winslow Lizzie Wright Robert Winslow Wint Winslow and Winslowof Detroit Midh Services were held at the Friends church with relatives from Allen W Newsom W P Newsom and Alva E Newsom in attendance.

Gas Company Fire Safety Warnings and Fare Notice

S. L. Newsom warns patrons that fires near meters are prohibited and they face a ten dollar cost for violations. Thawing should use hot water at the gas meter intake. A 50 cent minimum gas charge applies this past month with higher amounts billed. Office hours Saturday 1 to 4 pm for final settlements. Pete Turaska, a former Big Four brakeman, died at St. Vincent's Hospital from injuries after being struck by a fast passenger train near Fairland following a switch lock.
