Elmer T. Fenner resigns from the Ripley Township Advisory Board. Albert Terhune appointed to fill the vacancy.
A fox drive sponsored by the plan to go is set to meet at Arlington by 9 o'clock. Lunch will be served by the Joy Bringers Class at noon free to all hunters.
Roy notes burg shows flowers and beauty with no ice or snow like Indiana. He mentions preparing to attend a three-quarter century ball game featuring players all aged 75 and over.
Gross left his car by the roadside and traveled to Carthage seeking assistance, escalating a roadside incident into a help request.
Due to a conflict with the basketball schedule the PTA will move its meeting to Thursday February 10 and will be held at the building.
Mrs Rebecca Nigh has been seriously ill since Sunday morning at the home of Mr and Mrs War nie Mann. Mrs Lillian Julian remains ill at the home of Mr and Mrs Louis Humes. Mrs Hubert Hill remains much the same at her home.
Rush Lodge No 580 F and A M holds degree ceremonies as part of its ritual schedule. Members and candidates participate in the conferral at the lodge hall, with officers presiding and a public portion often announced for attendees.
Mr and Mrs Oliver Earnest left Monday for St Cloud Florida to spend a few weeks. Mrs Manlief remains in Rush Memorial hospital after a fall and Judith Kennedy is improving at Riley Hospital. Births reported at Rush Memorial hospital include Gregory Moore and George Brinkworth McNabb III with details of weights and times.
The Rev. Truman Whittaker pastor of New Castle Friends since October 1, 1950, will depart around May 1 to lead a congressional church in Maywood, Illinois. He previously resided with his parents in Walnut Ridge.
Considerable interest attended the 4Township Farmers Institute held in Arlington January 27 and 28 despite a solo by Mrs. Chester Kuhn. Rev. Soudah spoke on multiple topics, and 217 exhibits were entered, one of the largest in Institute history. Wayne County and local township winners are named across 4-H and open divisions, with Neal Kuhn earning top agricultural and 4-H awards. Premiums were funded by fees cake walks county funds and donations from Shelby and Rush counties.
Carthage Blue Raiders beat Waldron 68 to 63 on Waldron’s floor to stay in the sectional title chase. A see-saw first half gave way to a 55 51 Carthage edge after three quarters as Waldron fouled late and Carthage hit 12 free throws. The Raiders, with a starting five, held on as Waldron’s fouls and late pushes faded. Carthage seconds then edged Waldron 37 36 in the preliminary game.
The 1955 March of Dimes drive in Ripley Township is reported complete with a total of 479.57 dollars. Collections from mailed cards and rural organizations are not yet available. The report itemizes 912 school cards 7329 mothers march 190.4 corn for polio 181.17 and a blanket toss 5.
The Twelfth District Past Matrons Association of the Order of Eastern Star will honor the Worhby Grand Matron Mrs. Carrie May with a 1:00 o'clock EST ceremony.
A Valentine card party will be held at the Community Center on Wednesday February 9 1955 at 7:30. Tickets cost 50c and are sold by Kappa Kappa Sigma members. Bridge canasta and euchre will be played to raise funds for the sorority’s recently purchased Community Center building. Your presence will be appreciated.
Mr. C. R. Mathley of Carthage R. R. suffered a heart attack on Saturday and is reported improving at his home.

EL B O W met in Mrs. Iva Cook home with fourteen present as Valentine decor and refreshments framed the gathering. The group received yearbooks and planned February meetings with Mrs. Choral Club and Mrs. Hazel Dhonan. Numerous personal visits and weekend hosting marked the social scene across Charlottsville and nearby towns.
Jenner makes first public appearance back in Indiana since Congress opened the present session. He is slated to address residents in Shelbyville on a date noted in the brief item.
