Earl Addison, after a foot infection, left Rush Memorial Hospital for home Wednesday evening and is slowly improving. Auto license tags at Carthage branch are 200 behind 1954 sales with 256 plates sold by Wednesday. Mrs Anice Bly urges owners to visit before February 28 to avoid a rush.
The Indiana Grand Senior Warden will visit Rush Lodge No. 580 F and AM next Wednesday night February 1. W. H. Barbour secretary reports the scheduled official visit and details for members.

Mrs Clara Delinger fell on slippery pavement at the Manuel residence Saturday morning and fractured her left arm above the wrist. She was taken to Rush Memorial hospital for X rays.
Mrs Roll Risk fell Saturday evening while returning home from the grocery and sustained a broken hip. She is hospitalized at Rush Memorial in Rushville.
Mrs Felix Sanders was rushed to Rush Memorial hospital Saturday after sudden illness diagnosed as acute appendicitis.
Milroy post office will equip with 298 new lock boxes replacing 100 call boxes and 140 existing boxes. Mrs Mary Louise Hasty postmistress says the installation, supervised by traveling technician Robert Dively of the Post Office Department, adds 58 boxes and will be ready in a few days.
Mrs. Fred White came home Friday from West Milton Ohio where she tended her son the Rev Edgar White during his wife’s surgery and baby care. Her mother Mrs Cox of Arba Indiana is visiting for a few days with the family.
The Public Service Company helicopter surveying lines across the state made a forced landing in a field east of the "V" Monday morning due to a sticky valve in the motor. A. B. Hinshaw and Junior Vanderfleet from Plainfield were aboard. The craft was towed to a local garage for repairs and another helicopter later picked up the two officials.
Miss Marlene Graff of the Finance Center Fort Harrison near Indianapolis is promoted to supervisor. She is currently confined at home with a virus infection.
Temperatures drop to 4 below zero in Carthage and across Central Indiana as a week long winter surge peaks. Sub zero readings appear in northern Indiana and the northwest. no relief expected for two days with a possible high of 20 above. Roads, especially rural rush county edges, become hazardous as Indianapolis records its coldest spell in three years.
Cyrus W. Coffin a former Carthage resident of 1285 27th San Bernardino California sent 100 books to the Carthage Henry Hen ley Public Library. The gesture is greatly appreciated and Carthage residents may wish him a birthday greeting on February 1.
Rev Peter E Soudah pastor of Garrett First Presbyterian will be principal speaker at Four Townships Farmers Institute at Arlington High School Friday. He will discuss The Three Philosophies of Life in the morning and Building Monuments in the afternoon. The event includes musical numbers, devotions, a basket lunch, exhibits, and awards with an officers’ election.
Ralph M Henderson resigns as deputy sheriff citing duties at Anderson and his electric business. He says the new focus will take all his time.
Mrs John White attended a dinner meeting of the Knightstown Chapter of War Mothers held Friday evening at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall.
The Carthage Lions Club held its regular meeting at the Lions Den on Monday night. Six new members were initiated: Fred Parish Harold Souder Derryn Souder Roy Hearne Lewis Lafuse and William Windsor. The initiation was led by Ora Clayton.
Mrs Hattie Webster of Manillr was a guest Wednesday of Mrs Leatie Heifner in a social visit noted in local society pages.
Lewis Lafuse of Ripley Township was re elected for a three year term as supervisor of the Rush County Soil Conservation District at the annual meeting held at Wilhelm's Cafe. Seventy five farmers attended. The session featured talks on drainage contouring terracing and sod waterways and a main address on land and people by Fred O'Hair.
Mrs. Hazel Shaffer of Rushville and Mrs. Ora Beckner near Arlington were Thursday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jessup. Thurman Apple of Mays and Eugene Gardner with son Dean visited in Indianapolis Saturday afternoon. W A Dhonau and Guy Ewing called on Louis Larson and Robert Dhonaun in Indianapolis Sunday.
A daughter named Kristine Li Rucker was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Li Rucker of Bozmean Montana on January 15. The baby weighed 13 pounds 13 ounces and is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Porter.
Word reached relatives Wednesday of the death of Joseph Phelps a Denver Colorado government employee found dead in his garage Monday January 24 He was the youngest son of Mr and Mrs Nevil Phelps of Arvada Colorado He leaves a wife and two children his parents and a brother Robert of Denver Other particulars are not known at this time.
Arlington defeats Carthage 63 to 57 after leading 17 6 at Q1 and 37 24 at halftime. Kemple draws 14 free throws in late third quarter surge. Campbell leads Carthage with 14 points. Carthage Seconds lose 37 24. New Salem Eagles rally trounces Carthage 65 48.
In anticipation of the District Solo Ensemble contest at Ball State Teachers College on Saturday February 5 the Carthage group will present selections next Tuesday February 1 at 7 30 p m in the High School assembly. The program lists saxophone and clarinet quartets flute duets trumpet trio and piano and saxophone entries with students Suzanne Bramel Marilyn Buckley Carol Ewing Dean Addison and others. A Band Boosters monthly meeting follows the program.
Donald F. Cook of Carthage is among 1,052 University of Illinois students finishing midyear work. The batch includes 658 bachelor's and 394 advanced degree candidates. No midyear commencement. an informal convocation February 6 with a reception by President and Mrs. Morey.
Rush County and its schools and civil governments received 666490 in five state aid distributions for 1953 54. Schools got 294620 while highways and streets received 244716 and public welfare 114480. The Indiana State Chamber notes per capita state aid 33.66 in Rush County versus 32.70 statewide.
John A. Clevidence, 73, died after a Friday stroke at his home in Carthage. A brick mason born January 3, 1882 in Rays Crossing, he was a member of East Street Christian church. Survived by wife Fannie Bradburn Clevidence, two sons Paul and Massie, a sister Golda Smith, and two grandchildren. Funeral 2:00 pm Monday at Thompson Funeral Home with Rev. Basil Stultz. songs by Mrs. William Spence and Mrs. Harold Ruby. burial in Glencove cemetery, Knightstown.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p m from Charlottesville Friends Church for Mrs Kate B Ellis 61 of Charlottesville who died Monday in Rush County Hospital Interment was in Walnut Ridge Cemetery The survivor list includes husband Oliver son Ray two grandchildren and father D H Bentley of Charlottesville Also surviving are brothers Charles Bentley North Madison David Bentley Roanoke W Va and sisters Mrs Rose Wilson Carthage and Mrs W A Dorsey Greenfield
Sheriff Robert May reported a major theft at Russell Narvell farm near Carthage. Burglars entered the house and an adjoining shed sometime last week, stealing 50 steel traps two tool boxes with tools and two gallons of antifreeze. Narvell found the loss on Monday after returning home. Hugh Trowbridge assisted in the inquiry.
Seven township trustees and representatives backed a Rush County Polio Board plan for a Corn for Polio drive Marching with Mothers March on Polio to collect a bushel of donated corn from each farm. Local chairmen will organize areas and arrange volunteer trucks and drivers for pickup.
