Fire destroys age old Matney homestead south of R'ville
A Rush County ten room frame dwelling known as the Matney homestead burned Sunday around 1 pm. Passersby alerted Mr and Mrs Glen Guffin and family the flames began on the roof from a flue. A Christmas dinner was saved by moving food and most furniture was saved. Insurance partially covered the loss.

Funeral Rites Held for Rufus King Winslow
Funeral services were conducted at Walnut Ridge Friends church for Rufus King Winslow 70 of Carthage who died Sunday at Methodist hospital Indianapolis. Rev. Harry Reece and Rev. Homer Biddlecum led the rites with burial in the nearby cemetery. Survivors include wife Sarah Ellen Addison Winslow daughter Elizabeth Iddings brother Arthur Winslow and three grandsons William Ralph and Hugh Thomas Winslow. Two sons William and Rufus preceded him in death.
