Ripley 4-H club members earned ribbons at Rush County Corn Show. In Shelled Peck first year Billy Howard placed seventh, Donald Staten Jr first in second year, Robert Nigh sixth in fourth year. Donald Stoten Jr won reserve championship and first in 50-ears hybrid. Gene Tuttle eighth in first year and Thomas Johnson eighth in third year with Reid's Yellow Dent.

Carthage Officials Sworn Into Office
The newly elected Carthage town council held its first meeting of the year at the town hall. Officers elected include President Earl Addison, vice president Ed Bly, street commissioners Vinton Hudson and Alvan Sohn, fire wardens Randolph Reams and Ed Bly, and electric light committee members Earl Addison and George B Moore. Paul Oakes aged 17, son of Mr and Mrs Albert Oakes of Range line road west of Carthage, won a prize in a summer tomato contest. Harold Brune, 17, of Fountaintown, is also a winner. Each receives a $100 scholarship from Roach Indiana, a tomato plant operator in New Palestine and Gwynneville.

Revival Services Begin at Wesleyan Church

Fire Destroys Frank Weber Home Near Carthage
A Monday fire destroyed the Weber residence east of Carthage, with flames reaching attic and consuming the entire dwelling within minutes. Frank Weber discovered crackling noises in the attic and tried to fight the blaze with little protection as the city truck assisted, causing an estimated loss of 2500 dollars, partly insured, plus stinger's antique items upstairs.
