Raiders Shade Arlington In Grudge Game On Home Floor

Carthage remains unbeaten and untied with a 26-22 victory over Arlington in the annual grudge game. Lawrence Hunt delivered a pair of long-range scores including a shot from near the ten-second line to seal the win. Nelson topped Arlington with six points as local reserves added 22-16. Referees Otto Crosley and Forest Ballinger officiated.

Members of the Carthage Service Club and their wives gathered Monday night at East Street Christian church basement for a Christmas party. A home made program entertained guests after a fine meal served by church ladies. Grant Henley presided over the meeting.

Transfers In Rush County Real Estate Show Slight Increase

Real estate transfers across Rush County declined mildly in November with Carthage and Ripley township edging up. Thirty-nine total transfers valued around 13 405 dollars and eight transfers in Ripley township. Names include Porter Cooney Cromer Blessinger Dagler Gauthier Kennedy Hedgecock Hinshaw Henby and others with parcels in Carthage Ripley and Posey townships. Rush county students enroll at Indiana University for the semester and will take Christmas vacation December 21 to January 6.

The Ripley Township Farm Bureau met at Carthage high school for a festive session. 4-H corn displays and a cake show drew judges from Milroy area, with prizes awarded to Clifton Howard, Wallace Cook, and others. A new Carthage Christmas Cheer club formed to collect food toys and clothing for needy families, with donations requested by December 23.

Choral Club Presents Handel's Messiah at Friends Church

The Carthage Choral club performed selections from Handel's Messiah Sunday at 7 pm in the Friends church. Local former members Mrs. Wayne Newcum and Mrs. Vergil L. Tetrick assisted. The church featured a silver star, four candélbras, and floral decorations. Rev. Murray S. Kenworthy led prayers after the first half. Attendance was noted as good despite bad weather.

Funeral Services of Mrs Ida Strahorn Stewart

Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Stra horn Stewart were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the late home in Greenfield with burial in New Palestine cemetery. Stewart died suddenly Sunday evening from a heart attack. Attending from Carthage were Mr. and Mrs. Otto C. McCarty, Mrs. Sarah Stager, Mrs. Hubert Hill, Mrs. Grage H.
