Rush Legion Post 57 plans a Christmas dinner and party for 350 needy county children at the American Legion hall in Rushville on December 20. Contributions from Bush Post No. 150 and local citizens support the event, with Cooperators urged to contact Lawrence Wortman at the Insurance Exchange or any Legion representative.
Indiana entries shine at the International Grain and Hay Show in Chicago Region 8. Floyd Hiner of Lewisville and Samuel Hiner of Knightstown lead a list including Geo Wicker Fountaintown Ed N Lux Waldron Newton Hollerman Rushville I N Eperson Hope and Charles Jolliff Greensburg. Jolliff takes second in the white corn event with Adair Owens Franklin fourth and Earl Buckles Franklin fifth.
Members and families of Arlington Lodge No. 399 I O O F Arlington enjoyed a pitch-in supper and entertainment Tuesday evening. Peter Sattler chaired a varied program featuring the community orchestra led by Earl Downey, with Rev Morris Wilson offering prayer and other acts including Maxine Lee reading and Virginia Stout presenting the lodge financial report.
A Sugar Creek township school bus carrying fifteen children was struck from behind by an Arizona car driven by Walter Yeager of Phoenix on the National road near Briar farm. The bus rolled into a yard while the car overturned pinning its driver. Emily Belle Barker sustained minor injuries among the pupils. Yeager was taken to City hospital, Indianapolis, in critical condition with skull fracture. The cause could not be determined as Yeager could not speak.
More than 500 teachers from six eastern Indiana counties gathered in Knightstown for the Sixth District Teachers association annual meeting. Dr. Albert W. Palmer spoke on Is our Civilization Decadent in the morning and The Fine Art of Living in the afternoon. Lieutenant-Governor M. Clifford Townsend addressed the morning session on Modern Methods of Financing Education, while Dr. John J. Haramy spoke on What Price Liberty at Indiana Central College.

The Bluebirds staged a thrilling comeback against Knightstown, final score 21-19 in Knightstown. Carthage seconds beat Knightstown 16-8 in the second game, Morton I. S. S. won 35-26 as Carthage trailed through each quarter but finished strong with 11 points in the last period. A Carthage 36-17 win followed in the later preliminary. One game remains this week against Manilla on Milroy court Friday. County standings and scattered results follow among local teams.
Thirty two people were examined at the Tu berculosis clinic in county T. B. clinic held at Dr. E. S. Wooden offices with Dr. E. M. Amos in charge. Findings included one active tuberculosis case four suspects seven apparently normal six undernourished children and numerous contacts. Clinic funded by Christmas Seal sales supported by Woman's Council and Tuberculosis association.
The Ladies of Carthage Club presented a festival program featuring art and antiques from across the country at Rushville. Cartoons by the late Gaar Williams were displayed thanks to Mrs. Frank Schrichte. Literature talks covered early history and the book A Road of the Ages, with music and county club remarks closing the event.
Mr and Mrs Floyd Collins entertained Mr and Mrs Marshall Earnest of Marion over the weekend, hosting them Saturday and Sunday for a social gathering.
Marshal McCorkhill warns Carthage residents that intoxicated individuals will be arrested and fined for public disturbances. He cites a late Saturday incident where a man attempted to drive backward down the street, striking two cars and a street lamp, and vows to uphold law in town.
The Auditorium in town gains a larger screen and a new amplification system. The changes promise brighter pictures and clearer sound, with Saturday night showings now running and potential additional performances planned.
Six hogs averaging 180 pounds were reported stolen Thursday night from a farm northeast of Raleigh belonging to Ray Sprugeon. Police investigate with no suspects yet. Earlier, a thieves gang was broken up. three jailed, while Munson Reeves of near Knightstown faces bond on a hog theft allegation in New Castle.
The Union township bureau met at the Gings school building Thursday night for an oyster supper and a regular session led by Ray Ging. A Gings community band concert followed with remarks by Chas Masterson and a talk on the county cooperative program by Arthur Weidner. The group voted to donate to the Red Cross and to the county corn show. They discussed purchasing a county motion picture machine for farm bureau use, noting five townships have already pledged contributions.
The Bureau of Motor Vehicles says licenses go on sale December 9 with a December 31 deadline. All male applicants must show a poll tax receipt, with age rules applying for those 21 by March 1, 1934. Licenses available at Texaco Service, Main and First, local license staff Earl Nowotne and Harold Phelps.
The hunting fishing and trapping license sales start Saturday December 14 with licenses distributed to county clerks and agents statewide. After January 1 fines apply to unlicensed hunting. 1936 licenses use tinted paper to distinguish from 1935 permits. Get licenses early and share them as Christmas gifts.
A suspicious character, believed to be Thomas H. Robinson the alleged kidnapper of Mrs. Alice Stoll of Louisville, was sighted along National Road 40 west, authorities said.
Public notices announce upcoming city well drilling and advise residents on shopping and mailing practices during the holiday rush. Emphasizes early Christmas shopping, mailing gifts a week to ten days before Christmas, and using special delivery to ensure on time delivery. Advises proper packing and complete addresses and suggests consulting the postmaster for postal matters.
Thomas Stout age 43 died last Wednesday at 3 45 AM at his Arlington home after a year of ill health and pneumonia. He lived in Arlington 25 years and worked in gas and water well drilling with interests in Carthage gas wells. Survived by widow, daughter Mary, son Earl at home, brother Jesse Stout of Arlington. funeral at his home with Rev Morris Wilson, Arlington Christian church. Burial in Arlington East Hill Cemetery.
The Methdist Ministerial Association of the Rushville district gathered Monday morning at St. Pauls Methodist church Rushville with wives present. Rev R E Badger Milroy led devotions and song. Rev R H Meyers Manila presented The Minister and His Study. A noon luncheon followed closing prayers.
A resident along the National road reported a woman ejected from an automobile who walked like a man. Robinson had been seen in the area wearing feminine clothing during the past week. An immediate search failed to locate anyone fitting the description.
The town sold 35000 water bonds to City Security of Indianapolis at a 12:30 meeting last Thursday enabling water works construction. Two bids for wells were led by L M Chew Shirley and G C Stremmel La Fontaine. A second December 9 meeting approved a United States grant covering up to 25650 for the project and a tentative award for Division A to G C Stremmel, subject to state director approval. work to begin soon.
Thirty seven Carthage residents contributed one dollar each to join the Red Cross for the coming year. The published list names P J Sattler and many Carthage residents including Henleys McCarty Hill Pitts and Phelps among others.
Indiana allows sale of wild rabbits but limits possession to 20 at any time. A dealer may sell rabbits if not holding more than twenty in stock. open season limit is ten per day. The 1935 proposal to ban sales failed. fish, squirrels and birds remain restricted.
Mr and Mrs Henry Jessup and Mrs Elizabeth Leisure hosted their son Malcolm of Fairmount with Mr John Hayes of Marion and Mr Hubert Wilson of Fairmount as additional guests on Wednesday and Thursday in an informal family gathering.
