Bet ter Business Association Sets Holiday Hours and Dues
The Bet ter Business Association of Carth age met Tuesday evening and voted to keep stores open eight to five on December 26 and the day before Christmas. Stores will close midafternoon before New Year’s Day and reopen January 2. Merchants approved a $2 assessment to fund the town’s Christmas lights and named a nominating committee of Lloyd Manuel Fred Magee and James Ellis.

Methodist Youth Fellowship December Meeting Recap
The M Y F met Monday evening December 7 with Judy Kennedy presiding. Minutes were read, old and new business discussed, and plans made for a Sub district Youth Rally on December 14. Committees were formed for a Christmas tree and decorations. Martha Davis led songs with Lynn Kennedy on piano. Mr Rhodes gave a lesson titled Put Meaning into Christmas, followed by prayer and the M Y F Benediction. Refreshments were served by Martha Davis Kay Davis and Anita Leisure.

Mrs. Wilna M. Brown aged 65 died at 5 a.m. Wednesday at her home north of Arlington after years of ill health. Born August 18, 1894 in Rush County, she married Ollie N. Brown January 21, 1937 and is survived by her husband, a daughter Mrs. Russell Apple, a son Carl Eakins, a step-daughter Mrs. Claude Pearson, a sister Mrs. Joe Travis, two brothers Frank Barnes and Ed Barnes, and three step-children. She lived most of her life in Rush County and belonged to Arlington Christian Church. Funeral services Friday at 2 p.m. Wyatt Moore Mortuary Rushville. Burial East Hill Cemetery, Rushville.

Christmas Boxes Mailed By Church Women Fellowship
Fifteen Christmas boxes were prepared for mailing to soldiers and college students at a Christian Women Fellowship meeting at the church last Thursday. Ruth Jackson presided over the short meeting with Joanna Gibson as secretary pro tem. Maude Shuitt gave devotions and a fruit cake project report was shared. Plans were set for a church Christmas party on December 23. After packing, eighteen members enjoyed coffee and cookies.
