The M.Y.F. plans a Christmas program Sunday December 20 at 7 30 p m at the Methodist Church inviting the public. A candlelight service titled The First Christmas Story will be presented at Carthage Friends Church with primary junior and adult groups participating and open to all.
The December meeting of the P T O will be held at Carthage School on Tuesday evening at 7 30 with a short business session. The music department will present the regular Christmas program.
The Methodist Church will host a children's Christmas party with Santa Claus and treats on Sunday evening December 20 at 8 30 p.m. in the new church addition.
About seventy guests attended the Lions Club family night turkey dinner and gift exchange at Tweedy Memorial Center. President Lewis Lafuse led the meeting with blessing, roll call, and prize awards for recruiting new members.
Mr and Mrs Ronald Davis of Olive Hill Kentucky welcomed a 6 lb daughter born December 1 Ronald is the nephew of Mrs Joe Davis of Carthage where he formerly lived and worked at Alsta Containers Inc
Eddie Carter formerly of Carthage is seriously sick and has undergone major surgery. He is listed at Box 187 White Springs Florida in this notice.
Mr and Mrs Jack Collins of Knightstown are the parents of a son born December 8 at Rush Memorial Hospital. Grandparents listed include Mr and Mrs Elmer French of Carthage R R 2 and Mr and Mrs Horace Collins of Knightstown.

Plans for a teen canteen in Carthage nearing completion announce a record player table tennis card tables and a shuffleboard court. It will run Tuesday and Saturday 7 to 10 p m for grades 9 12 and Thursday 7 to 9 p m for grades 1 8 with after home games if free. PTO will provide chaperones and hot dogs popcorn and soft drinks will be sold.
The Indiana State Chamber of Commerce reports that the average Hoosier must work 194 days to cover tax bills next year. About 28.3 percent of total income goes to federal, state, and local taxes, meaning 104 days of earnings are needed before receiving pay for personal use.
Rush County Republican Central Committee meeting at Durbin Hotel endorses Crawford Parker for Governor and Philip Willkie for Lieutenant Governor as the strongest 1960 ticket. Also endorses James C. Cooper for renomination to the Indiana Appellate Court. Meeting drew 18 of 20 precincts. Beaman spoke on the plan.
Mrs Bertha Beck hosted a Friday noon luncheon bridge with guests Gouldie Kyser Stella Humes and Nelle Newby. Kyser won high honors Stella Humes was second and Nelle Newby received low.
Miss Violet Stewart daughter of Mr and Mrs Forrest Stewart of Carthage married William Mefford Saturday night December 12 at 7 30 pm in Carthage Wesleyan Methodist Church Rev C C Fields officiated Otis Mefford of Vanceburg Kentucky parents of the groom attended along with Mr and Mrs Albert Stewart The couple reside in an apartment on South Washington Street Knightstown.
The Carthage Chapter OES No 574 met December 9 at 7 30 p m with Worthy Matron Leone Mosier presiding. A Christmas decorated Lodge Hall and gift exchange followed a program by Carthage High School vocalists under Sue Ann Land. Refreshments were served.
Mr and Mrs Bearl Addison celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary with an open house on December 20 from 2 00 to 5 00 p m at their home in Homer Indiana Attendees are invited to share memories and greet the couple during the afternoon event.
Twenty one members of the Methodist Fidelity Sunday School class attended a dinner at the Blue Bird Restaurant in Morristown last Thursday evening. After the meal a social and gift exchange followed with attendees including Mr. and Mrs. Bob Nigh, Rev. Paul Mayfield, and other couples.
The Methodist Friendship Class met Tuesday evening at Esta Fenner's home with Goldie Roland as co host. Nineteen members and four guests attended. Gifts and secret pals were exchanged after the meeting and new names drawn. Refreshments followed.
Carthage Raiders pull even at four wins, four losses after a strong showing against New Palestine. They hit a 0.444 shooting percentage but dominated rebounding 51 28 and face Fayette Central January 5 before the county tourney starting January 7.
Carthage Raiders defeated New Palestine 68 52 to extend their win streak. Richard Doughty led scoring with 27 points including eight straight free throws in the final period. Ashworth troubled Carthage with 16 points for New Palestine.
Carthage outshot Milroy 29.3 to 20.6 percent and led each quarter, with Doughty scoring 19 points and Bill Muir adding six field goals. Milroy stumbled at the line while Carthage’s second team rolled to a 50-23 win over Milroy seconds.
Mrs. George B. Moore attended the T. O. G. Club meeting and Christmas party at Mrs. Lucille Cover's home in Rushville. Sunday diners and supper guests included families from Commiskey, Indianapolis, Acton, and Greenfield. Lip Quick lip stick and Coty perfume shells advertised by Leadbetter Pharmacy Carthage.
Rush County commissioners discussed a joint funded county airport with prospects of federal matching funds. A Rushville Junior Chamber delegation urged forming a committee to study feasibility while noting budget constraints for 1961. A permanent committee will study and report back. federal 50-50 matches exist for construction.
A December Upper Room meditation recalls a Bethlehem funeral eve in an upper room with quiet faith and the Christmas light guiding paths to peace. Poetically notes that Christ can turn sun sets into sunrises and asks for guidance for a world shadowed by loss and darkness.
Lewis H. May pastor leads services with Sunday School at 9 30 Supt Kenneth Todd and Sharon Todd organ 10 30 Worship and a 7 00 Christmas program. Children meet Saturday at 1 00 for practice. Wednesday December 23 carol singing 7 00 prayer meeting then carols and social time at Marilyn Jo Gray's home.
The M.Y.F. met Monday evening December 14 with Judy Kennedy presiding. Minutes and treasurer's report were read. Old and new business followed. Plans include a Saturday party and play practice and a Monday taffy pull with a white elephant gift exchange.
