The Better Business Association of Carthage will hold a night meeting next Tuesday December 8 at 7 p.m. at the office of Bob Winters. All members urged to attend.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Walker and her father Ed Ruby spent two and a half weeks in Ft. Lauderdale Florida as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Ruby. The Walkers returned home Sunday evening while Mr. Ruby remained for an extended visit.
The Carthage Band Boosters met at the school building on Tuesday night. A report showed $328.59 netted from the Candy drive with more to come, and $300 was allocated to the new band uniform fund. Other items included new rules and regulations.
Mr and Mrs Robert Dale and sons moved from 1 Sl and East Street Carthage to Indianapolis this past week. Mr and Mrs Bob Jackson and family moved from Celia Alexander property to the Dale house. Mr and Mrs Francis McColley and children moved to Celia Alexander property on Market Street.
The Interstate Commerce Commission approved an 88 million dollar annual parcel post rate increase, averaging 17.1 percent. The Post Office Department will set the effective date next week with at least 60 days notice, varying by package size and distance, favoring small short trips and reducing some large long trips.
Rush County Extension Office reports Golden Dawn Farms of Ripley Township displayed a pure bred Angus steer that won champion Angus in the on hoof class at the International Livestock Exposition in Chicago. The sire Ankon son 3536 also sired a calf that was grand champion at the Hoosier Beef and Carcass Show in Indianapolis. A summer yearling steer from Golden Dawn Farms placed 13th at the International.
Mrs. Janet Porter and her children Randy and Penny flew to Germany on Thanksgiving to join Captain Thurman Porter Jr. The sailor’s new address is Captain Thurman Porter Jr. 43813A 5011st TAC CON WG Box 170 APO 12 New York NY.
Mr and Mrs Wm H Dixon have purchased the Roy Turner property on South Main Street in Carthage and also the adjacent lots owned by Mr and Mrs Robert Moore.
Mr and Mrs Howard Finch returned from a deer hunting trip in West Virginia. He shot a deer on Monday December 1 and brought it home. The couple also visited Mrs Finch s father C B Kellar during the trip.

Rushville High hosts college representatives guiding Rush County youth on entrance requirements, courses, scholarships, housing, and activities. Seventeen colleges attended. seven Carthage School students listed among seniors and juniors involved.

Students note a panel discussion on becoming better citizens, cursive writing begun November 30, and two birthdays for Becky Wells and Larry Pitts. Jimmy Dale moved to Indianapolis. We visited the library Tuesday and started on the White Box and Christmas decorations.
Students listed several classmates and staff working on decorations and projects for the room. Ricky Hampton and Patricia Gorman are creating a large Shepherds and Silent Night picture while Miss Todd designs a calendar. New reporters include John Ewing Lorinda Miekush and Patricia Gorman.
A six room house owned by Ed die Wright in Charlottesville burned completely Monday night despite efforts of three fire companies. The unoccupied residence likely caught from defective wiring with early reports of a stove ignition discounted by witnesses. Knights Town and Wilkinson fire units aided Charlottesville firefighters in containing the blaze.

Numerous households hosted Thanksgiving dinners with extended family and friends from Carthage Indianapolis New Castle Dayton and Greensburg. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Paul Coyner Tenn Mrs. Richard Pearson Terre Haute and many others from Ohio Indiana and Michigan in a busy flavor of holiday hospitality.

United Fund Drive chairman Mrs Hazel Alexander reports about 1200 donated in Ripley Two toward a 2500 township quota. Last year Ripley contributed 1456. Contributions may be mailed to Mrs Alexander as thanked workers and donors.
