Pilot Lukens Awarded Distinguished Flying Cross in Vietnam

Captain Leland K. Lukens of Palm Beach Florida and Carthage connections earned the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross for meritorious achievement at Bien Hoa and for saving aircraft from fire. He flew with the 1st Air Commando Squadron, logged over 170 combat missions since 1964, and performed daring taxiing to clear burning planes after a May bombing. He also strafed targets with napalm and rockets during July operations under heavy fire.

Charlotte Kyser Risk 88 of Carthage died at Hillside Haven Nursing Home Rushville. Born September 16 1877 in Hancock County she married Roland Risk in 1896.
