William Smith of Carthage has been promoted to technical sergeant while serving with the 83rd Thunderbolt Infantry Division in Germany. He took part in the Normandy campaign, Rhineland breakthrough, and the Ardennes fighting. he is the son of Mrs. Fiona Smith of Route One.

Brooks returns from 29 months overseas service
Lowell C. Brooks arrives back in Carthage after 29 months overseas with the Air Transport Command. He landed at Miami on August 17 and traveled about 11 000 miles from mid Germany to mid America. He holds the Good Conduct Ribbon five Battle Stars and the ETO Ribbon. He is 40 years old.

Carthage Man Returns to Civilian Life at Atterbury Center
T-4 Charles McPeak was honorably discharged from military service on August 21 under the Army adjusted rating plan. On that day at Camp Atterbury Separation Center, 142 Hoosiers were discharged, with 74 more released the following day.

Plans For Future Rush County Fairs

Twenty two members attended as committees reported a financially successful fair with strong 4 H and open class livestock exhibitions. Miss Mary Ann Kullmer daughter of George Kullmer of Indianapolis and granddaughter of the late Dr C V Gause of Carthage conducted the American Broadcasting Company Orchestra in New York. A former first violinist with the Indianapolis Symphony, she studied piano from age four and violin later, spent time at Leipig Conservatory on a 1987 scholarship, conducted in Berlin and other cities, and was interned during the war before returning to the United States in 1942.

Mrs. Stevens is a sister of Mrs. Earl Addison. Mrs. Joe Stevens and Miss Barbara Jackson visited the latter's mother, Mrs. Dana Jackson, in Long hospital Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Jackson is slowly improving. Charles Rhodes entered the Methodist hospital and under went a sinus operation Tuesday morning. Mr. Rhodes is improving nicely.
