The State Highway Commission calls for bids Tuesday August 26 on 45 miles of resurfacing across 22 counties. Work, using rock asphalt and bituminous materials, targets city streets and state routes in LaPorte, East Chicago, Mishawaka, Fort Wayne, Muncie, Rushville, Terre Haute and others. Rush county project segments include Rushville areas on Roads 44 52 and 140 spanning portions in Rush and Henry counties.

Road 52 Accident Claims One Life
Rev. G C Mullins 55 of Dry Ridge Kentucky was instantly killed in a U S 52 collision near New Palestine Monday afternoon. His wife was injured and taken to the Methodist hospital in Indianapolis. Investigating officers said the couple driving toward Indianapolis attempted to pass a Greyhound bus when they sideswiped it. The bus left the road and halted in a corn field. None of the passengers were hurt.

Two Injured Near Charlottesville Caused by Jackknifed Truck
Two Texans, Harvey Spencer and Elma Spencer of Houston, were injured when a tractor and semi-trailer jackknifed at the Charlottesville bridge on U S 40. The crash occurred about 8 15 a m as an eastbound outfit loaded with furniture slowed for the bridge.

Legion Day Set At Indiana Soldiers Home
Legion Day at the Indiana Soldiers and Sailors’ Children’s Home near Knightstown will be held Sunday September 7 a week earlier due to the Milwaukee Legion National Convention.
