School will start serving hot lunches at the Cafeteria on Monday August 31. Notices will be sent to parents. The listing of Carthage Schools personnel last week omitted Mary Helen Dixon secretary to the principal. William Skinner.
Mrs Blanche Randall Coffin and her Bemidji, Minnesota family visited Frank Brooks and relatives here last week. Coffin is his cousin and had not been to the area in over forty years.
Donald Gribbons and Hubert Stark both 22 were arrested Saturday night in Carthage on charges of petit larceny. They are alleged to have stolen a Hampshire shotgun from the William F. Magee farm near Carthage Thursday night.
William H. Skinner Democrat was chosen chairman of the town election board at a recent meeting. Other members are Roy Small Republican and Mrs. Bernadine Morgan town clerk treasurer.
Rush Lodge No. 560 F and A M will honor thirty eight members for 25 years of service at the next stated meeting on September 2, 1959. All members are urged to attend as a special program and refreshments will follow. Lee Patton W M.
Marines Pvt. Jack A. Smith and Pvt. Thomas M. Gorman Jr. completed an 11 week recruit course at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego California. The program covered basic military subjects and infantry weapons with assignments to units or schools afterward.
Misses Sue Ann Sandefur Mardell Wrightsman Pam Clark and Dixie Smith attended a baton twirling clinic at Butler University last week from Sunday to Friday.
Mr and Mrs Lloyd Manuel and their sons attended the Cincinnati St Louis baseball game in Cincinnati Sunday. They also visited friends in the evening.
The Carthage American Legion Auxiliary holds an installation service and regular meeting Monday at 8 p.m. at the Community Center Ruth Harper of Greenfield will install the new district president and officers. Members are urged to attend. Hostesses Vera McNabb Hazel Alexander and Bertha Beck.
Billy Lockridge of Muncie reflected in his great grandfather’s home while his mother Mrs William Lockridge flew to Houston to visit Mr and Mrs Charles Baker. The husband was in two weeks training with the Air Force Reserve at Ellington Base in Houston Texas.
A reunion for the Henderson ball team and their families is planned for Sunday August 30 at Rushville City Park. A pitch in dinner will begin at noon and all are welcome to attend.
Mesdames Kenneth Land Marvin Johnson and Claude Butler served as a committee at the Indiana State Fair grounds on Wednesday to arrange an exhibit for the Mixers Home Demonstration Club. The display was entered in the competitive group at the Woman's building for display and judging.

The Thirteenth Annual Southeastern Indiana District 4H Steer Show and Sale gathers 171 steers from 101 members across 10 counties at Rush County Fairgrounds Rushville on September 12 1959. Prizes trophies and cash awards are provided by local chamber merchants breed associations and sponsors.
Mr and Mrs Charles Walton sold their house trailer and moved to 403 West North St apartment C Greenfield Indiana while awaiting completion of their new home at Maxwell Walton will teach industrial arts and serve as assistant coach at Hancock Central School Maxwell
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Nigh and sons hosted a Sunday dinner honoring Larry Nigh and Charles Nigh of Knightstown for their birthdays. Attending were Earl Nigh, Charles Nigh and family, Paul Edwards and sons, and evening guests Dale Liebrandt and their children from near Spring Lake. Randy Nigh planned a visit with the Liebrandts this week.
Mrs. Loyall Hunt hosted a Wednesday cookout at her home to honor her husband’s birthday and the birthday of Mrs. Agnes Hensler. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Fred Flick Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bush Dr. H. L. Hensler and young Mark Hawkins of Muncie visiting his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hunt.
A noon carry in dinner will be held at Walnut Ridge Friends Church to honor minister Robert Morris and his family. It will be Rev Morris last Sunday as minister. All friends and church members are invited.
The Womans Society of Christian Service held a Tuesday district Seminar Meeting with an all day session starting at 9 a.m. at the Morristown Methodist Church and a noon dinner at the Blue Bird Restaurant dining room. Attendees from Carthage Methodist include Mesdames Wilma Mayfield Edna Kennedy Gladys Mosley Lillian Stanley Lela Gold Goldie Roland Faye Whitfield and Lena Newsom.
A farewell cooperative dinner will be held Sunday at Carthage Friends Church to honor Rev. Robert Shockney and his family. Church members and friends are invited to attend.
East Street Christian Church junior members held a meeting last Thursday night with eleven attendees. Nine members and two teachers were present as Vernon L. Little served as reporter.
Mrs. Virginia Wells Mrs. Betty McClurg and Mrs. Roberta Dalrymple hosted a hamburger fry for Carthage Friends Junior Choir at the church from 4 30 p.m. Sunday. Fifteen choir members and one guest attended and enjoyed games.
Chi Ro held a gathering on August 24 1959 at the Christian Church with 17 members and three guests. Alvin Holmes and Tommy Manuel led songs while Karen Siler and Arlene Ruby served refreshments. Mrs Ruby read a story about Gossips and Susan Holmes closed with a friendship circle and prayer. Linda Apple was the news reporter.
Mrs. Helen Patton hosted a junior Sunday School gathering for Carthage Friends Church last Friday at Knights town Sunset Park. Assisted by Mr. Patton the group enjoyed swimming skating and a cook-out supper with Kathy Heim Susan Skinner Linda Wells Rosalie Howard Steve McClurg Woodrow Clay Kit Porter Eldon Jackson Robin Higham Dickie Fannin Judy Fannin Mary and Rick Patton.
The Me thodist Youth Fellowship held a regular meeting Monday at 7 30 p m with minutes read and treasurer's report. Old business covered the M Y F choir while new business planned attending Billy Graham with Jr M Y F. Sub district meeting is in three weeks with no location yet.
Mr and Mrs Bob Nigh move this weekend from the Finley Smith farm to the Carl Schilling farm in Arlington R R Their children will attend Carthage Schools while living in Ripley Two on the township line.
Mr and Mrs Harold Davis and six children of near Manilla bought the Nigh farm and will move about September 1. Mr and Mrs Howard Addison and family moved to Parke County this week where Mr Addison will teach at Turkey Run Consolidated School.
Thirty eight members and friends gathered at Mrs Elmer Hunts home for the Hunt family reunion. A noon cooperative dinner followed by an afternoon business meeting elected Sharon Hunt president Hubert Hunt vice president and Ida Jessup secretary treasurer. The day included social time contests and refreshments. The next reunion is set for the fourth Sunday in August 1960.
Lawrenceburg Speedway officials announced an AMA sanctioned National Championship program for Sunday August 30 at 2 30 pm. The event will feature riders from nearly every state competing for national points toward year end World Champion status. Time trials start at 9 00 am with gates opening for fans and picnics before the 2 30 pm race.
Mr and Mrs Edward Fenner hosted a Sunday dinner at their country home west of Carthage. Guests included Mr and Mrs Edward Askren Mr and Mrs Walter Askren Mrs Carrie Askren all of Indianapolis Mrs Julie Rauschhaupt of New Palestine and Mrs Parker Askren of Albuquerque New Mexico. Walter Askren presented color films from a trip to Portland Oregon and Seattle Washington.
A weeklong trip took Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Moore around Michigan with stops at Houghton Lake and Mackinaw City. They visited friends in Marquette and Sault Ste. Marie before returning to Carthage via Wisconsin.
Mrs. James Ellis and her children spent this week at Lake Shafer. Mr. and Mrs. Fred McManus also visited the lake for several days this week.
Mr and Mrs Fred Flick returned home Saturday from a month long vacation spent at Estes Park and Salt Lake City. They called on Burt McCarty in Fort Collins and Basil Hedgecock in Idaho Springs during the trip and enjoyed cool nights and pleasant days throughout their stay.
Mr. and Mrs. Odell Pitts and their children spent several days last week visiting Niagara Falls and stayed one night in Canada.
Mr and Mrs Elmer Fenner and their son Larry returned home after an eight day trip visiting Rev and Mrs Kenneth Kuebler and family at Clintonville Wisconsin and touring Land O Lakes Rib Mountain and the Meromenee Indian Reservation in Wisconsin They also visited Copper Harbor and the Arcadian Copper mine in upper Michigan.
Mr and Mrs Clyde Elmer Ruby return to Carthage after an eight day trip through New York State. They visited the Thousand Islands St. Lawrence Seaway project and the Finger Lakes region and saw many points of interest.
The Misses to Gray and Jackie Parish of Carthage Myrna Duncan of Indianapolis Louise Herbert and Jean White of Rushville spent the weekend at Lake Shaffer.
Mr and Mrs Noah Brooks and their daughter Cindy spent last week with Mr and Mrs E G Harris and their daughters at Hagerstown Maryland.
Sunday gathering at Greenfield Park drew Oliver Earnest Logan Nelson John Nelson Wm Nelson and family and Donald Kuhn of Morristown.
Donald H. Brewer, Senior Vice President and head of the Container Division since 1954, resigns. Walter P. Paepcke announces the move and Leo H. Schoenhofen will oversee the Container Division in the interim. Brewer began with the company in 1934 at the Chicago corrugated plant and held multiple executive posts including VP of the Chattanooga subsidiary.
Austin Davis of Ft Wayne Technical College spent Saturday to Thursday as a house guest of Mr and Mrs Joe Davis and Joey Lynn. Numerous families hosted guests from Detroit Charlottesville Arlington Carthage Indianapolis and other towns over the weekend and into midweek, including Rosa Earnest Janet Hunt and Mark Hunt among others.

The September meeting of the Methodist W.S.C.S. is set for next Thursday at 2 p.m. in the church and will include a Harvest Tea. All nonmember ladies of the church are invited as special guests. Roll call will be “First School I Attended” with devotions by Helen Brown and a lesson by Ruth Hunt. Hostesses are Lou Earnest, Opal Nelson, Wilma Mayfield, and Laura Beason.
Rush County 4H members entered Crafts Clothing Home Improvement Food Preservation and Electric items for the upcoming State Fair. Exhibits selected to represent the county include numerous names across multiple projects with baking entries due for delivery August 31 and judging to begin as the fair opens September 2.
Arlington defeated Ross Market 2-1 to capture the seven team league tournament. Arlington took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Cooley's three base hit and a Kramer walk, with Rucker and Knoop driving in two more runs on sacrifice bunts. Ross scored in the fourth on Kugler triple and infield out. Arlington pitcher Asher fanned eight without a walk while Markley struck out six for Ross.
Mrs. Virginia Lewman reports regular letters from her husband Curtis Lewman who has been sent overseas with the 7th Infantry Division in Korea.
