Arlington Resident William E. Andrews Dies at 86
William E. Andrews aged 86 and longtime Arlington cemetery sexton died at his Arlington home at 3 15 p m after a period of illness since July 26 following a stroke. Born in Delaware November 17 1854 he moved to Rush County as a boy and lived there since. He married Mary A Bradham July 12 1876 and they had ten children seven survive. Survivors include his wife two daughters Elsie Duncan Greenfield and Bertha Morton Rushville five sons Elmer C Denver Henry Greeley Willie Chicago Charles Greenfield and Frank Greenfield three brothers James H Gwynneville Sherman Anderson and Dora C Greenfield thirty one grandchildren and twenty nine great grandchildren. Last rites were held at Arlington Methodist Church with burial at Arlington.

Fire destroys two barns on dry night
About 10:30 Thursday night two barns owned by Hamil Henley and Walter Manche burned to the ground while a third owned by Ronald Risk was badly damaged. The fires spread rapidly in extreme dry weather before the local department arrived and prevented further damage to nearby structures.

Ripley 4-H Club Plans September Joint Meeting
The Ripley township 4-H club met at Lawrence Apple's home Tuesday night with eleven members present. Billy Spacey reported on the recent Junior Leader meeting in Rushville. A committee of Philip Winslow, Lawrence Apple, Clifton Howard, Robert White and Spacey was formed to arrange entertainment for the September joint meeting with the 4-H girls. The group discussed achievement scholarships and records and closed with chocolate milk, sandwiches and potato chips.

Two Carthage women suffered serious burns from a gas stove explosion and spilled hot grease. Mrs. H. O. Pitts was burned on face and hand when gas ignited under a oven, a physician was called, and she is recovering nicely. Mrs. Jesse Henley received deep burns on her left hand and side after spilling hot grease while cooking, and she is being treated and recovering.

Big Four Discontinues Greensburg to Anderson Passenger Runs
The Big Four will end passenger service between Greensburg and Anderson, effective August 30. A star mail route will start September 1 with southbound mail at 11 49 a m and northbound at 4 36 p m, leaving Carthage without bus service or a state route for future transit.
