Calliope to Blast at 1955 Indiana State Fair
Indianapolis Alphabet: The Indiana State Fair runs August 31 to September 9 featuring one of only three public calliopes. Harry Shell of Farmington Missouri will perform on a 100 pound steam powered instrument with 32 whistles across two octaves. The wagon mirrors circus models built in Peru Indiana. The performer must relocate to coal and water between tunes. The instrument reportedly emits heavy steam and water usage during shows.
