Controls to Linger Awhile Says Star Editorialist

The dawn of peace will not send rationing powers into precipitate rout. Some controls will remain indefinitely. Others will be eased. Prompt relief will be extended in some cases, giving the regimented consumer at least partial cause for rejoicing. Acceptance of continued restrictions should be recognized as essential to the general welfare, especially in distribution of limited foods. This does not mean the public will tolerate regimentation beyond the term necessary to insure to each family its rightful share of meat, sugar and other basic commodities. Some officials believe that food rationing may be retained for another two years, until normal production can be resumed. Rent controls will remain for a time, as little increase in housing facilities is expected until after the first stage of post war readjustment. Major relief will be provided in gasoline, fuel oil, tires, shoes and various small consumer goods for civilian use. The gasoline coupon should soon become a memento. Current travel restrictions.
