The school principal invites all Carthage Class of 1966 members to a meeting in Room 26 of the high school at 7 p.m. on Thursday August 19. The session should end around 8 15. Seniors with problems regarding class programs may consult Mr Damm or Mr Smith after adjournment.
A bowling workshop for presidents secretaries and women officers of mixed leagues will be held at Mrs Howard Wills home 912 George Street Rushville Indiana on Thursday August 19 at 7 45 p m. If unable to attend arrange for a substitute to represent your league.
Carthage High School and Jr. High School baseball teams challenge their fathers to a game on Saturday night August 14 at 7 p.m. at the local diamond. Coach Richard Truby will umpire. Gene Richmond and Lewis Lafuse will coach the teams.
Miss Pat Clark editor in chief and Miss Lou Magee copy editor of Ball State University yearbook the Orient returned from a business trip to Chicago. The editors were hosted by the American Yearbook Company of Hannibal Missouri and traveled by air.
Mr and Mrs Robert White of R 1 Carthage welcomed a son named Michael John born Tuesday August 3 at Hancock County Hospital Greenfield He weighs 9 pounds 5 ounces and is the grandson of Mrs Chester Mealnear Waldron and Mr and Mrs John White R 1 Carthage.
Mr and Mrs Charles Whit field and children Amy and Joe of Carthage R 2 plan a move within weeks to a new three bedroom brick ranch style home adjacent to their current house. They have sold their present home to Mr and Mrs James W Mosier and their two daughters of Carthage RR.
Mr and Mrs Dwight MecCormick and their two children left Tempe Arizona for home after spending two weeks visiting relatives in Indiana They stayed with his parents in Connersville her mother Mrs Mary Gurley of Carthage and Mr and Mrs Claude Butler and daughter of Rushville among others
Five former Pendleton High School students surprised Mr Bayard Baker with a Wednesday afternoon visit in Pendleton Indiana. The group had met earlier at Mrs Florence Rensenberger’s home for a reunion and included Sara Johnson Kendallville Eva Pring LaGrange Helen Harden Anderson and Florence Manuel Bradenton Florida.
The Carthage Brotherhood and Sisterhood invites all members to a pitch in supper and meeting at the Community Center Monday August 16 at 6 30 p m. Members are encouraged to attend the social portion after the meal.
Mrs Esta Fenner came home last Thursday after visiting her brother Marion Askren and Mrs Askren in Indianapolis. They also traveled to Albuquerque New Mexico with the Askren family. Parker Askren, a Fenner brother, has recently returned from the hospital.
Mrs. Donald Hedrick of Greencastle has been elected chairman of the Logansport Regional Hospital Volunteer Committee of the Mental Health Association in Indiana. She will coordinate volunteer activity across 17 counties serving Logansport State Hospital and also serves on the state committee. The Hedricks previously taught in the area, and Mr. Hedrick was a longtime school administrator and varsity coach.
Mrs. Forrest Beck, Mrs. Frank Hampton, and Mrs. Rachel King attended the 10th District meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary in Selma Indiana. The Carthage unit won a National Citation for enrollment efforts and a department citation as a goal unit, plus a Certificate of Merit for 100 merit points. A reception followed for Dorothy Tudor of Gaston Indiana, newly elected Department Southern Vice President.
Mr and Mrs Harold Culbertson and their son spent several days visiting relatives in Batesville Greensburg and Indianapolis. They called on Roy Culbertson Rob ert Maple Walter Rodgers Robert Culbertson and Steve Chiodini among others. On Tuesday evening the couple attended the Decatur County Fair.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde E. Ruby and daughter Arlene vacationed in the Smoky Mountains visiting Lookout Point Ruby Falls and Rock City near Chattanooga Tennessee. They enjoyed Gatlinburg Christus Garden Wax Museum chair lift and climbed Clingmans Dome. Friday was spent at Virginia Beach en route home and Arlene stopped at a Christian Youth Camp in Bedford Indiana. Weather was reported wonderful throughout the trip.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Overman hosted a Sunday dinner in Carthage honoring Frank Overman on his 89th birthday. Attending were Frank and Mrs. Overman of Carthage, Marion Schumpert and family of Jacksonville Florida, Stuart McKnight and family of Wingate Indiana, Kirby Overman and family of Otterbein Indiana, Helen Magruder and Ben Magruder of Carthage, plus Schumpert and McKnight guests visiting from Florida and Indiana.
Indiana sets the 1965 squirrel season from August 15 to October 13 with a five squirrel bag and possession limit. Because opening day is Sunday, the Monday after the 15th becomes the first legal hunting day. Biologists forecast similar statewide harvest to 1964, about 1.5 million squirrels, with regional population differences noted. Hunters are advised pre-season scouting and landowner permission.
Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Marshall and Steve spent the weekend at Madison and Brown County. En route home they visited Mr. and Mrs. Richard Marshall and children at Indianapolis. Karen Sue Marshall joined them for a few days while her parents vacation.

Rushville invites all women to a meeting at the Elks Club on Monday August 23 at 7 30 pm. Mail reservations to Mrs Carol Clemons 824 West Eighth St Rushville Indiana by August 18. Cancellations may be made by August 20 with potential charges after that date. All women interested in winter leagues should attend.
The Twelfth Annual Southeastern Indiana District 4H Market Barrow Show and Sale will be at Rush County Fair grounds on Monday August 23 with entries due by August 11. Judge Glen L Byler and auctioneer Col Hoyt Vanderbeck lead a day of weighing, showing and a 8 00 p m sale.
The Methodist Church Builders Sunday School class from Carthage, high school age students, held a picnic at Long Acre Park in Indianapolis. Thirty six attendees swam, boated, and played miniature golf while chaperoned by the Alexander, Terhune, Walker, and Edwards families.
Mrs Gouldie Kyser hosted a Monday afternoon bridge party with one table. Honors went to Mrs Forrest Beck as high and Mrs Wilbur McCorkle as low, while Mrs Stella Humes was the remaining guest. Refreshments were served.
Real estate transactions in Rush County rose in July after slow months. Farm sales totaled 240 700 with a 75 000 cash deal as the largest. Non farm deals reached 143 900 led by over 20 000 sales in Manilla and Carthage. Rushville city property 105 700 and a 16 775 largest transaction. Twenty four farm deals were railroad quit claims via William F. Smith. Several parcels changed hands including Elmer French to Wrightsman and Hallie Bennett to Valie Gold among others.
Bloomington Indiana coach John Pont declares the objective is to win now with five home games on the schedule starting September 18 against Kansas State Northwestern on September 25 Washington State on band day October 23 Iowa for Homecoming October 30 and Purdue November 20 Road trips include Texas October 2 Minnesota October 9 Illinois October 16 Ohio State November 6 and Michigan State November 13.
Dwayne Ray visited Quaker Haven church camp at Dewart Lake near Syracuse last week with his family. Mr and Mrs Lewis Lafuse and their family attended the Connersville fair on Monday.

Arlington outlasted Carthage 85 to claim the county softball title and advance to district play to be staged in Arlington. Parks homered and tripled for the winners, Cooley added a triple, and Wolf doubled. Carthage’s Tague, Muir, and McCorkle doubled. Stewart fanned four in the Arlington win.
The Women’s Society of Christian Service met at the Methodist Church annex with ten members and two guests. Mrs. Robert Walker presided and read an article titled It’s O.K. Everybody Does It. Roll call and last meeting minutes were given by Mrs. Mable Manche. A workshop is planned for August 11 at Greensburg Methodist Church. Mrs. Raymond Kimiedy presented the lesson What Is Courage. Refreshments were by Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Marvin Johnson.
Guests from Dayton Ohio and Richmond joined Mr and Mrs Stanley Hankins for dinner and Sunday visits. The Cheevers from Vevay spent Friday with Mrs Forrest Moore. Carla Ruble from Rushville stayed with Mr and Mrs Pitts. The Pitts hosted relatives near Madison and James Ellis family visited. Russell Hunt accompanied by Oliver Earnest were seen at the gathering.
The Carthage High School Band led by Bob Edwards competes for 655 in the Farmer's Day Parade at the Indiana State Fair on August 31. Bands have a three minute limit to cover 136 yards with three judges scoring on playing 40 percent, marching 35 percent, and appearance 25 percent. The 1964 top prize went to Pike Township High School Band with Danville High School second. The fair runs August 28 to September 7 and features floats and a pet parade.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Trowbridge spent Friday to Sunday in Cincinnati visiting the Reds Dodgers game Friday night and Sunday afternoon. Tulsa guests Dallis Deem dined with the Ewings. Sunday visitors to the Browns included Bob Fancher and family of Arlington and Frank Hampton and sons. Bill Schmidt hosted Graff and Gary Siler in Indianapolis for a birthday. Stumpf and son Chris joined Stella Humes for Indianapolis visits. John Brown and Clara Delinger visited Rushville on Saturday. Moore hosts Stella Humes with Ernest Linville of Rushville for Sunday dinner. Flower Show and Tea at Eastgate Auditorium were hosted by Green Thumbs Garden Club of Indianapolis with Stella Humes and Iva Cook attending. They ate dinner at Sams Subway. Visitors to Josie Nigh and Julia Smith included Huron Rafferty of near Seymour and Ralph Duncan of Mohawk.
