Clifford A. Akers aged 20 of Carthage and Martha Alice Conley aged 16 of Carthage received a marriage license. Other notes report local residents healing from illnesses, hospital stays, and follow up care across Henry and Rush counties, including patients at Rush Memorial and Hancock facilities.
Mr and Mrs Jack Fagel and their daughter visited from Kennard to join Mr and Mrs Art Walters in spending the weekend at the Fagel Cottage at Silver Lake in northern Indiana.
Delores Anne Earnest daughter of Dale and Rachel Earnest of Carthage and granddaughter of Roy Small was graduated Friday August 5 1966 from Ball Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Muncie Indiana. She will work in the Intensive Care Unit at Ball Memorial Hospital. A reception for relatives and friends followed with about fifty attendees at her apartment hosted with roommates Janet Booher and Karyn Pfeffer.

Dr. Stephen J. Wright president of Fisk University will deliver the August 19 commencement address at Ball State University for about 1,100 graduates at 5 p.m. on the Arts Building terrace. Wright has led Fisk since 1957 and serves on national education panels. Ball State will award degrees to reach nearly 2,400 for the year with local graduates Patricia Mae DeWitt and Mary Evelyn Ruby among those receiving master of arts in education.

A Florida based visitor attended the funeral of Donald D. Ball at Dean and Johnson Mortuary in Richmond Indiana on Thursday afternoon.
A letter to 1st Lt. Gatewood's parents celebrates his achievement as a Naval Aviator, noting months of intense training at Ellyson Field and his qualification as a helicopter pilot. The Gatewood family, with Purdue graduate Mr. Gatewood and Mrs. Linda Lukens Gatewood, now resides in Jacksonville North Carolina after Florida flight training.
The Big Blue River Watershed Project advances to the House Public Works Committee final stage. The Lower Big Blue Reservoir would flood about 8 800 acres near Carthage with a 63 foot dam, at an estimated $20 25 million funded mostly by federal and local taxpayers. The Upper Big Blue Watershed would add several small dams and lakes across Henry and Rush counties costing about $9 million, with federal support of about one third. Carthage would become a focal point for both parts, boosting land values and potential recreation if approved for completion around 1972.
The 45th Annual Leisure family reunion will be held Sunday August 21 at Rush County fair grounds Community building Rushville. A dinner is planned at 12 noon with playground and swimming pool available for attendees. Relatives and friends are invited.

Before any interscholastic contest a student must file a Parent and Physician Certificate of physical fitness in the Principal's office for the school year. A licensed Indiana physician must perform the initial examination prior to the first contest. If absent or unable to practice for five days, a re-certification by a licensed Indiana physician is due between 6 and 8 pm on Thursday, August 18.
Dr. and Mrs. William Newby and their sons from Moberly and Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Brookhart of Donnellson Iowa stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Guy Ewing for several days. Supper guests included the Gilding family of Greenfield and the Pete Ewing family from Muncie. Bill Ewing and family of McCordsville joined Sunday dinner. The Ewings hosted a tour of Indianapolis on Friday and Monday.
Mrs. Helen Magruder hosted a Sunday afternoon reception at their N Main St home for Frank Overman on his 90th birthday. About 45 guests, including family and neighbors, enjoyed cake and punch served by Mrs. Jack Overman. A noon family dinner at his son’s home preceded the event. Local relatives and friends gathered from Jackson Florida and Lafayette for the celebration.
De Fagel aged 79 of Shelbyville died August 1 at Major Hospital Shelbyville. Family members listed include Mr and Mrs Mosier and Mr and Mrs Wand among others in this partial obituary snippet.
Mr and Mrs Carl Foust of Carthage return from a 21 day trip visiting eight countries in Europe including Rome Athens Cairo Beirut Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. They toured with a group in a seven passenger car flying between countries with first class arrangements and met their son Pfc Leo Foust stationed in Schweinfurt Germany during the visit. A vandalism incident in Carthage resulted in a 13 year old suspect and $125 damage to a chair at Wilbur McCorkle home.
The Carthage Volunteer Fire Department met last Wednesday at the fire house and elected Harold Davis as president Foster Wilson as vice president Robert Nigh as secretary Phil Parish as treasurer Bob Jackson as fire chief Charles Elmore and Howard Leisure as assistant fire chiefs.

Carthage High School Band practices three nights weekly ahead of Friday trip to Coney Island. Last month they marched in Knightstown parade and placed elev enth at the Delaware County Fair. They aim to improve for the State Fair. Dale Copple Reporter.
Machinist's Mate Fireman Morris A. Kennedy of Arlington Indiana has joined the U S Seventh Fleet as a crewmember of the anti submarine aircraft carrier USS Kearsarge now deployed off Vietnam. The 41000 ton ship is expected to visit Hawaii Yokosuka and Sasebo Hong Kong and Subic Bay while in the Far East.
Lyle O Plank of R R 1 Knightstown received his Private Pilot license in 1966 at Anderson Muncie Airport in Anderson Indiana.
Funeral services were held for Donald D. Ball 72 of Richmond a former Rush County county agricultural agent and relative of the Overman family of Carthage. A Purdue graduate he served as county agent in Davies and Rush counties and was local agent 1920 to 1924. Survivors include his widow Hazel Ball a daughter three brothers and a sister.
Mrs. George McNabb Jr and her children Mitchi and Michael of Fairbanks Alaska arrived here two weeks ago to visit relatives and friends in Carthage and surrounding area.
Mr and Mrs Keith Ray and daughters of Carthage vacationed for two weeks returning Friday July 29 They spent the first week at Lake Freeman then traveled to Niagara Falls Canada Detroit Michigan and visited Greenfield Village and the Ford Museum while in Detroit.
