Odell Pitts is away on a weeklong business trip to Sedalia Missouri. The Better Business Association of Carthage and spouses held a semi annual dinner July 31 at the Durbin Hotel Rushville. A post dinner meeting outlined project plans and set August 24 for the next big event in Carthage.

Local families return from vacation via Milwaukee trip

Mr and Mrs Paul Edwards and sons with Mr and Mrs Earl Nigh of near Henderson have come back after a week away. They visited Clancy Nigh and Mrs Nigh of Allegan Michigan. The group traveled on the S S Milwaukee Clipper from Muskegon to Milwaukee and watched two bus games between the Milwaukee Braves and New York Mets.

Army Paratrooper Hinshaw Leads Jutland Jump in Denmark

Army Staff Sergeant John R. Hinshaw, 24, of New Castle Indiana and Carthage Iowa, a squad leader with the 504th Infantry in Mainz Germany, took part in Operation Jutland Jump a five day airborne exercise in Denmark. The mission tested paratroopers in unfamiliar terrain behind mock enemy lines. Hinshaw entered the Army in 1955 and arrived overseas in 1958 with his wife Katharina accompanying him in Germany.
