Mr and Mrs Ralph Henderson announce the birth of an 8 lb 12 oz daughter Jennifer Gwen on Thursday morning April 25 at Rush Memorial Hospital. Parents and baby reside locally and eagerly anticipate time with family.
Miss Olga Barnes age 30 daughter of Mr and Mrs John Barnes of near Spiceland and Francis McColley age 26 of Carthage were married Saturday at 7 p m in Greenfield Methodist Church by Rev Seeger. Attendants were Mr and Mrs Henry Barnes. They reside at 5½ North Adams Street Knights town.
George Jones aged 50 of Pendleton and formerly of Carthage died at 10 am Sunday at River Drive Hospital Noblesville after two years of declining health and seven weeks of serious illness. He was a local mechanic who ran a Carthage garage. Survived by wife Ruth Ellen two daughters Martha Ann and Sue Ellen, his mother two brothers and a sister. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Bright Funeral Home Pendleton with burial in Pendleton Cemetery.
Gary Allen McClurg Bobby Earl McCorkle of Carthage John Taylor of Knightstown and Gary Wilkinson of Wilkinson left Thursday morning by car for Spartanburg South Carolina to visit Wofford College. They will be guests of the school and tour the campus returning to Carthage Sunday evening.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Lands welcome an 8 pound daughter named Victoria Louise born Saturday April 20 at Rush Memorial Hospital. The baby is the granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Ralph Truitt.

The Lions Club met last Monday chaired by President Clyde E. Ruby to discuss sponsoring the Cole Bros. circus on Monday May 6 with advanced ticket sales under way. Indiana Senator Richard Newhouse, from Rush, Shelby and Fayette counties and resident of Morristown, spoke on the recent General Assembly and January February laws. Refreshments were served by Guy Ewing and Tom Shields.
Mr and Mrs William Sweet of Carthage Indiana announce the birth of a son named Robert Lee weighing 9 pounds born at Rush Memorial Hospital on Friday. He is the grandson of Mr and Mrs Paul Akers.
Donald Gribbons was arrested Sunday by Town Marshal Hugh Trowbridge for reckless driving and driving with suspended license. He crashed into a tree at 3rd and Walnut near the Methodist parsonage and struck a telephone pole on North Main. Fines totaled $387.50.
Principal Charles Morris announced Carthage High School's commencement will be held Thursday night May 16 at the Tweedy Community Center Clyde Gentry head of the Tuttle Hooper Schools at Crawfordsville will be the speaker Gentry has 28 years in Crawfordsville school administration and holds degrees from Canterbury College and the University He is active in Lions Club and Lions International and known as an athletic official in Indiana events The list of 25 seniors to graduate includes Addison Bailey Ball Bramel Clay Cline Elmore Leisure Little Logan Loveall Lukens McClurg Magee Marsh Weidmer Wrightsman and others

Bill Aker announces the Cool Rods have accepted invitation to participate in the National Teen Age Rodeo sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Eligible youths must be under thirty by August 1, hold a driver’s license, and have no moving traffic violations in the past six months. a written exam will determine entry. The event occurs April 28 at International Furniture Co parking lot, Plant 2, Rushville.
Mr and Mrs Stuart Morgan and Miss Dorothy Herkless were Easter dinner guests of Mrs Eva Herkless and her daughter Irene in a local family gathering.
The Ripley Township Cancer Drive will be led by Mrs. Frank Alexander as township chairman with home to home solicitation in Carthage and Rural Routes under the Carthage Legion Auxiliary. William Reeves of Mays will chair all townships for a $3600 goal, a 10 percent rise from last year. In 1956 Rush County raised 99 percent of its target. fifty cancer deaths were recorded locally.
Mrs. Nelda G. Manuel 36 wife of Lloyd Manuel of Carthage sustained mouth cuts and bruises when her 1955 Pontiac, left turn into the path of a car driven by Wesley S. Rad cliff 16 of Greenfield Route 1. The collision occurred Saturday morning at the Main and East Streets intersection Greenfield police reported.
The Ripley Homemakers met last Thursday at the Community Center basement with Eva Wagoner Leslie Heifner and Ruthy Cook as guests. President Chloa Ewing led the group in a club prayer and secretary Joanna Gibson gave the report. The song of the month was Welcome Sweet Springtime and roll call answered A Nice Thing a Neighbor Has Done For Me. The lesson covered Program Planning as eleven members and two guests enjoyed refreshments and crocheted Easter baskets with candy eggs as favors.

Bulletin boards by Miss Mundell showcase track and field visuals and sport coverage. Senior memories recall early school days and look ahead to graduation with classmates sharing updates and futures. John Warren Power of Carthage died April 23 1957 in Rushville Memorial Hospital after entering March 29. Born May 16 1872 in Rush County he was a carpenter in later life. Survived by one daughter Mrs Ralph Mosier two sisters Mae Landers Lulu Polk and two grandchildren. Services held April 25 at Thompson Hampton Funeral Home Walnut Ridge Cemetery. Spring Institute W C T U event in New Palestine with state vice president Mrs Cleo Parrish.
Mrs. Lillian K. Durocher of Chicago published her cantata Sing Forth His Praises and had it aired in a full program on Station WSEL on April 18. A Carthage native, she trained in local schools, became a music supervisor and church volunteer, and led Youth Choirs and Morgan Park Presbyterian music department for a decade.
Cecil Tague resigns as Milroy Baske coach after four years to take a higher salary post at Spiceland replacing Keith Castellucio. Milroy teams under Tague went 37 47. Sprague from Lynn Indiana named to coach cross country basket ball and track at Carthage. Sprague formerly led Spartanburg High School to 20 2 and County Track and Conference Baseball titles. He is 26 with a daughter and will move to Carthage with his family.
The forty fifth annual convention of the Indiana Congress of Parents and Teachers will gather in Indianapolis May 24 1957 featuring Dr John S Carroll Goleta California and Dr Andrew D Holt University of Tennessee among headliners. State officers will be elected May 3 with candidates including Dr Christian Jung Mrs Don Herrin and Mrs Marvin McKee.
Mr and Mrs Louis Humes entertained with a dinner at Easter. Guests included Mrs Myrtle Miner and her daughter, Mrs Joyce McKinney and two daughters of Cincinnati, Mr and Mrs Lindley Taylor of Noblesville, and Mr and Mrs Richard Stumpf of Indianapolis. Mr and Mrs Lee Patton and children were Easter dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Delmont Collins at Marshall Illinois.
Rush county students will compete in finals of the state high school contests on Saturday April 27 at Indiana University. 1156 students qualified from March 23 regional contests across 33 cities. events cover mathematics English Latin and Spanish with 571 in math 261 in English 188 in Latin and 136 in Spanish.
Families from Madison Carthage Rushville Greenfield Indianapolis Muncie and Metamora hosted and visited relatives and friends during Easter. The gatherings featured multiple dinners and extended visits at homes and local restaurants with many named individuals attending.
