Health Officer J Arthur Lineback asserts that all dogs and other animals must be muzzled or quarantined to prevent hydrophobia. Police and sheriffs will kill any dog at large without a muzzle where muzzling is ordered. Violators face fines from five to fifty dollars. The order takes effect May 1.
The coroner Dr A G Shauck of Arlington filed a murder verdict Tuesday in the Harris case. Mrs L B Harrig was killed at her Ashland farm home near Gings before the house was set on fire on March 12 to conceal the crime. A special grand jury probes the mystery with Paul Harris and Oscar Calhoune named as key witnesses.
Patrons with meters not currently burning gas may have gas turned on May 1 only. Gas collections at the company office take place every afternoon 1 to 5 and every evening 6 to 8 between the 3rd and 7th of each month. If payments are not prompt, gas will be shut off without further notice.
Rural route patrons are urged to renew subscriptions to the Indianapolis News rr edition or The Indianapolis Star through the Post Office or via Ed Bitner and Mer ril D Coffin.

Local church activities include Missionary Society meeting at the parsonage. Rev Mrs Jay OG to preach next Sunday. Memorials and services noted at M E Church. Pentecostal offerings listed. Sunday School attendance at Brazil Easter reach 1938 with $1275.60 collected, plus $2551.20 total including a donor match. Friends Church held missionary services with The Pageant at Music Hall Cincinnati and a $45 collection for an Africa school.
Frederick Sohn was bitten and scratched by a sick dog on Friday morning causing deep wounds. The dog later died and was confirmed rabies by Indianapolis authorities. Sohn began Pasteur treatment in Indianapolis and will undergo at least eighteen sessions starting with three doses the first week.
Charles Johnson, son of Mrs Ann Johnson, was stricken with pneumonia at Lattle Wash where he had lived for years. His wife, an invalid, resides with her parents in New stle. Mr Johnson moved to Seattle hospital, recovered enough to leave, and was advised to rough it for three days.
Carthage High School will hold commencement Friday May 10 at Fletcher M E Church with Dr E H Lindley of Indiana University giving the address on The Powers of Men. Montana Bros of Indianapolis to furnish music. ten graduates named. Baccalaureate sermon May 5 at Friends Church by Rev I P Harbaugh with music by the high school. J A Lineback completed school roll totaling 200 pupils with 81 white males 77 white females 28 colored males and 14 colored females.
The Christian Helpers schedule a May quarterly market for Saturday May 11. The event invites community shoppers and volunteers to support upcoming charitable programs.
W M Redman of Rushville will oil the streets on May 1. Contractors wishing to bid should notify R E Henley at once.
