Mrs Donald Sparks and her daughter Elizabeth Anne depart New York City by air Monday at 6 p.m. for London England to visit Mrs Sparks mother Mrs Alice Gillard in Panfield Essex. During a three month stay they will visit friends and relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Stan Collins of Milford Ohio announce the birth of an 8 lb 10 oz daughter Lucinda Jane born April 11. Grandparents are Roy Small of Carthage and Mr. and Mrs. Horace Collins of Knightstown.
The Henry Henley Public Library participates in National Library Week with the Better Read Better Informed America and Wake Up and Read programs. Librarian Mrs Herbie Beher extends a cordial invitation for all to visit during the coming week.
The Adult skating Club of Carthage rents Maxwell Rink this Sunday night April 19 inviting children and adults to attend the skating party. Contact a charter member for ticket prices.
Gene Patterson and Alvin Holmes led songs on Monday at 7 00 p m with newcomer Eldon Jackson. The planning committee included Marilyn Pitts Carol Ellis and Gene Patterson as they prepared a party. The group won Chi Rho Charlie at the district meeting and Karen Siler read Acts 14 10 25.
Mrs Norma McKain Mrs Mary Draper and Mrs Bertha Beck represented Carthage American Legion Auxiliary at the 10th district meeting in Union City Indiana. The all day meeting and noon luncheon were held at the Union City Legion Home.
Mrs Fay Burkher reports her aunt Elizabeth Binford widow of Charles Binford formerly of Carthage is seriously ill and lives with her daughter Mrs Emma MARDIS in Deer Lodge Montana. Mrs Forrest Becks mother Mrs John Thompson is in poor health at Fountaintown Nursing Home.
Mrs Marjorie Ratliff daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul Doughty of near Carthage has accepted the job of office girl at the Shockney Accounting Service Office Carthage.
Carthage youth and sponsors attended the MYF district meeting at Shelbyville First Methodist Church. Richard Doughty of Carthage was installed as district vice president while new district officers were elected. Rev Emerson of Bloomington delivered the address.
Band boosters urge all parents to attend the meeting on Tuesday April 21 at 7 30 PM in the school band room to discuss several items of important business.

Freshmen at Indiana University will move into the Tower Residence Center next fall with on site scholastic counselors to ease the transition from high school to college. Some sections will be reserved for first year men and others for freshmen women all residents will dine together and all male students must wear coats and ties to dinner.

Fredrick Frank Brenan age 82 of Middletown Indiana and formerly of Carthage died last Thursday night at St Johns Hospital Anderson after an extended illness. He owned the Carthage electric light and power company for years and recently the Middletown Cannery. Survivors include his wife Hes ter two daughters Mrs Ben Van Meter Middletown and Mrs Ralph Carr Huntington NY two sons Lt Phillip Brenan Pensacola FL and Lyle Brenan Dunreith one brother one sister grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Middletown.
Members of the Rush-Decatur National Farm Loan Association attended the National Federation Convention in Oklahoma City on April 8 9 and 10. William F Smith secretary treasurer of the Rushville National Farm Loan Association was reelected second vice president of the Federation.

Katherine Watkins of Rural Route 1 and her husband Bill won a Florida magazine contest for a Florida Nassau trip. They describe a two week, postponed journey from December to October with visits to Driftswood Inn, Dodger Stadium, McKee Jungle Gardens, Silver Springs, Cypress Gardens, Ybor City, and Ringling Estate. They toured Florida landmarks, attended films, and enjoyed Gulf Coast sights including a Sunshine Skyway crossing and a Buccaneer Inn stay.
