Mrs Iris L Jordon of Carthage seeks a three year separation from John C Jordon in a complaint accusing habitual cruelty. She requests custody of their children, $40 weekly support and possession of household furniture as alimony. The couple married February 27, 1943.
Mr and Mrs Patrick McCleese of R R Knightstown announce the birth of a son, Jesse Allen, weighing seven pounds six ounces, born April 3 at Rush Memorial hospital. Grandparents are Jesse Addison of Carthage and Herma McCleese of Kentucky, formerly of Knightstown.
The Carthage FFA chapter met on April 8 with Pres. Ronnie Sullivan calling the meeting to order. Plans were set for a sorghum demonstration plot on Howard Leisure's farm and a High Corn Yield Plot at Finley Smith's. Joe Foust and Bill Muir reported on the State FFA convention held April 2–3, and the Juniors served refreshments. Glen Smith, Reporter.
Tuesday night April 14 at 8 00 p m the Adult Farmer Class convenes in the school shop to discuss tractor overhauling and tune up. Representatives from Allis Chalmers will demonstrate a complete tune up and farmers are invited to attend with neighbors.
The Carthage Lions Club will sponsor a Home Talent Show on Thursday April 30 1959 at the Community Center. The committee seeks participants and urges talents in dancing vocal and instrumental. Interested individuals may contact Lions Frank Hempton or Hubert Taunk.
Fourteen ladies completed the Red Cross Home Nursing course at the Community Center on Wednesday. Recipients listed include Lillian Stanley Lela Gold Eva Leisure Laure Scott Hazel Alexander Virginia Whitfield Fern Pearson Edith Hull Ruth Jackson Phyllis Lafuse Virginia Johnson Carolyn Kendall Maude Shutt Joyce Harrold. The group enjoyed punch and cookies and presented Anna Mae Stanley with a gift for her efforts in teaching.
All Legion Auxiliary members are asked to meet in the Community Center basement Friday at 7 30 p m prompt for a call meeting.
Eugene Miekush and Phil Parish of Carthage returned home Saturday after a week in Rochester Minnesota for Mayo Clinic examinations and checkups.
The Chi Rho met Monday at 7. New members Howard Logan and Gene Patterson joined. Ruby discussed the district meeting and pin awarded for 500 points to Carol Ellis. Acts reading led by Marilyn Pitts with prayer by Mariann Wachtstetter. Pat Boone book discussed. P T O basketball supper set for Wednesday April 15 at 7 PM at the Community Center with a pitch in and program.
The Carthage Garden Club will gather on Tuesday April 14 at the residence of Mrs Nanomi Ray for a meeting.
The Carthage National Honor Society installed April 8 with Knightstown members guiding. Inductees include James Overman Ronald Tuttle Franklin Clark Richard Magee Jeannine Terhune Patsy Finch Sheryl Mosier Ronald Fannin and Donna Goudy. Sharon Todd was elected but ill so to be inducted later.
The Rush County 4H Tractor Club met March 31 at Farmers Tractor and Implement Company with 82 members and 15 adult leaders. Alan Hartman led the 4H pledge and David Norris led the American flag pledge. A showing of the film Soil Conservation preceded division lessons on lubrication front wheels tools for breaking soil and mowers and applied uses by year of membership.
The County Home Demonstration Chorus prepares a celebration for its twenty fifth anniversary inviting all former members directors and extension agents to Belle Gregg School Multi purpose Room at 3:00 PM Sunday April 12. Mr and Mrs Marvin Myers will attend as guests with Myers affiliated with Purdue University. A musical program and an exhibit of pictures clippings and scrapbooks are planned.
Hubert Hunt presided at Tuesday noon session. Jane Rhodes read minutes and treasurer’s report. Clyde Ruby announced April 18 as the next record hop and noted a Town Board annexation meeting from March 6. Parvel Moore to set a night meeting date for the next association gathering.
Mrs. James Moster and Mrs. Don ald Staten Sr. were Friday guests in Indianapolis. Ross Gahimer and Ora McMichael were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer McMichael Sr. Numerous families attended church services, visited relatives, and noted a 50th wedding anniversary south of Clarksburg.
Pam Hunt of the Ripley Needle twisters 4-H club won first place at the Rush County Share-the-Fun Festival held April 3 at Belle Gregg School Rushville. Her tap specialty dance advances to the District Festival in Rushville April 8 with 11 other counties.
Miss Marlene Graff of Indianapolis visited her family and joined them for the weekend in Indianapolis. Norma Jean Sipes, formerly with Shockney Accounting Service, began work for an Indianapolis insurance company. Edward Fenner hosted Sunday guests Charlie Pitcher of Richmond. Louis Humes visited the Stumpf home in Indianapolis. Elmer Fenner and Edward Fenner hosted Saturday dinner with Edward Askren, Carrie Askren, and Steve Spillman, all of Indianapolis. Mrs. Ralph Stevens and children of Indianapolis stayed with Floyd Reddick and family for the week.
Farmers continue top dressing and plowing as summer work begins. The Rush County Achievement Program honored Golden Dawn Farms and 4‑H recipients. FFA members Muir and Foust attended the State Convention. A county dairy judging contest is planned Friday at two local farms. Allis Chalmers experts will discuss tractor tuning at an Evening Farmer Class next Tuesday at 8 PM.
The Rush County 4H Electric club meeting schedule for 1959 was set with a March 31 planning session in the Extension Office. The program allows ten year old members to participate, adds a county demonstration option, and includes a completion tour for attendees who meet two of three meetings. Meetings are May 20, June 5, and June 17 at 8:00 p.m. Enrollment ends May 1.
The Rush County Board of Commissioners voted thanks to organized Truck Operators for cooperation during the spring thaw. Operators restrained loads and limited heavy traffic on lighter roads, keeping road damages to a minimum and earning gratitude from the Commissioners and the Highway Department.
Harry O Pitts 83 a retired rural mail carrier dies at home on North Main Street Carthage at 9 45 a m Tuesday after a year of ill health He was born February 29 1876 to James S and Narcissus Pitts He married Verna Spencer in 1903 who died in 1946 He later married Nellie Herkless in 1950 Surviving are two daughters two step daughters four grandchildren five great grandchildren five step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews Funeral services were held at Hampton Mortuary Carthage with Rev Everett Chapman and Rev Robert Shockney officiating Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery Knightstown
