Mr and Mrs Marlin Sandefur of Carthage welcome a 6 lb 15 oz girl born April 8 at Hancock County Hospital. Grandparents are Mrs Laura Sandefur and Mrs Lucy Jones, both of Carthage.
Mrs Frank Hampton and Mrs George McNabb represented the Carthage American Legion Auxiliary at a district auxiliary meeting held Tuesday at the Moore Irving Legion Home in Richmond Indiana.
The Triple F met Monday April 9 at 6 30 p m at Carthage Friends Church for a business meeting. Refreshments were served.
The Carthage Brotherhood and Sisterhood will hold their regular meeting at the Carthage Community Center at 7 30 p m Monday night the 16th All new membership cards to be turned in to Secretary Earl Addison before the meeting.
A Past Matron and Patron’s meeting is set for April 16 1962 at 8 p.m. at the Masonic Hall with attendees expected to discuss lodge affairs.
William Harold Dixon attends a meeting in Indianapolis at the Continental Hotel for the Indiana Bankers Conference on Installment Credit.
The public is invited to view the Carthage Home Ec Classes I and II baby layette and many baby dresses made by local school girls. The display runs in The Citizen newspaper windows until next week.
Paul J. Livingstone of Quantico Virginia spent the weekend with his wife and son Paul at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs Roy Robertson in Carthage.
Gary Brown, a senior at Ball State Teachers College, received straight A's for the winter quarter, registrar Dr. Leo Hauptman reports. Brown is the son of Waldo Brown of Manilla and a graduate of Manilla School.
Mrs. Myrl Mann returned home Saturday from Rush Memorial Hospital and is slowly improving. Mrs. Rue McDaniel remains at Rush Memorial Hospital in room 122 and is slowly recovering. Mrs. Joanna Gibson is slowly improving at her Carthage home. Al McDaniel remains about the same at his Carthage home.
A Friday night session led by Hubert Hunt, president, explored arrangements for the upcoming annual alumni meeting. Mrs. Roy Stanley and Mrs. James Whitfield of the Carthage Band Boosters attended to coordinate the alumni dinner which the Boosters will serve.
Mr and Mrs Loyal Hunt returned to their home Sunday from a ten day trip to Florida visiting her brother Virgil Masters at Lauderdale By The Sea and Mrs O M Masters of New Castle who joined them after six weeks with her son. They toured Miami Cypress Gardens and deep sea fishing at Ft Lauderdale and met several former Carthage residents en route at Daytona Beach.
Mrs Bob Nigh of Carthage entered Henry County Hospital Sunday and underwent major surgery Monday. Her room number was 124.
Mrs Thomas Bush Mrs Ross Tweedy of Carthage and Mrs Ed Hall of Knightst attended the Anderson Garden Club event in Toledo Ohio last Wednesday for the annual Flower Show.

The Carthage Lions Club hosted about 40 guests including varsity players, cheerleaders, managers and coaches Norman McCloskey and Larry Jordan at the community center. New officers include Tom Shields president and Parvel Moore secretary with two-year directors Lewis Lafuse and Hubert Hunt.
On Sunday April 8 1962 the Methodist Youth Fellowship attended a rally at East Side Church in Connersville with 17 members present. Donny Carter a ten year old from Los Angeles guest starred on the Hazel TV program aired Thursdays at 9 30 p m He is a first cousin of Mrs Bill Windsor of Carthage and has made prior TV appearances including during children s programs.
Mrs. Ann Stager and Mrs. Robert White attended a Grand Council meeting of the Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority Saturday at the Continental Hotel in Indianapolis.
David H. Ruby, son of Mr and Mrs Harold Ruby, was initiated into the Zeta Chapter of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity at Indiana University Bloomington on March 22 1962.
Carthage celebrates National Library Week April 8 14 noting the history and growth of the Carthage Public Library from 1852 to a 8616 title collection in 1902 and inviting residents to visit the facility open Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays 1 to 6 pm.
The Carthage Christian Church on East Street will add a four room wing this summer to provide larger Sunday School class rooms. Construction begins early July and should finish in about 60 days. Delbert Mann of Morristown is the general contractor with a contract value near $10.
Birch Bayh described Senator Homer E. Capehart as a stone age Republican living high off the dinosaur at the Rush County Jefferson Jackson Day Dinner. Bayh urged Indiana voters to elect a Democrat to join President Kennedy and Governor Welsh in moving industry, jobs, and farming reforms. The event drew a large Carthage delegation led by Jim Webb.
Real estate totals for 1962 reach $206 300 in the Dill county recorder office. March 1961 had $349 000 in deals. Farm sales in March reached $128 800 while suburban and nonfarm deals added $56 200. Rushville city transactions totaled $21 300 with farms selling for $40 000 and $25 000.
Mr and Mrs Larry Messer of Knightstown announce the birth of a daughter April 2 at Rush Memorial Hospital. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Howard Leisure. The baby is named Jonita Sue.
The Arlington High School Alumni Association will hold its annual meeting on Saturday evening May 19 at the school. President Carlos Tribbey said committees are being formed for activities and an interesting program is planned after dinner. All alumni are urged to attend and cooperate to keep the event going in the future.
A large crowd attended the Rush County Women’s Republican Club meeting in the Courthouse Assembly Room last Wednesday night. Principal speaker was Mrs. Jean Bond of Liberty, 10th District GOP. Mrs. Ruby Malson opened the meeting. Mrs. Richard Norris led the program. New Salem High School pupils Dianne Norris and Rosalyn Maple sang. Gayle Van Trees and Helen Greeley spoke on the Chamber of Commerce. Ohio County Chairman John W. Hughes spoke briefly. Republican primary candidates were introduced by Wilma Houghland, vice-chairman.
The Indiana State Highway Commission directs preliminary engineering studies for widening and resurfacing US 52 from Arlington to Rushville in Rush County. Final plans await Bureau of Public Roads approval and detailed engineering after this preliminary survey.
Rev. Frank Guyatt of Dublin formerly of Carthage was honored at the Boston Men’s Club seventh annual program in Boston Indiana near Richmond. About one thousand attended the This Is Your Life style event with friends and Mrs. Guyatt aiding in the surprise. Carthage guests included AJ Carr Knightstown Howard Henley and Virgil Creek with Mrs. Henley accompanying her husband.
Indiana farm cash receipts totaled 1.179 million in 1961 a four percent rise from 1960. Livestock and products rose two percent crops eight percent with livestock receipts 60 percent of total. Government payments reached 70 million in 1961 up from 17 million in 1960. Realized net income per farm including payments averaged 3436 dollars a 27 percent rise.
The Carthage Parent-Teachers Organization held a Tuesday night meeting at Carthage School with open house and a band concert. President Jack Tweedy introduced Mark Ellis of the county School Reorganization board who spoke on the meaning and purpose of school reorganization.
John Akins aged 62 of 514 East Seventh Rushville died at Rush Memorial Hospital at 6 30 a m Thursday after a week long illness. A cement finisher born in Georgia he formerly lived in Carthage before moving to Rushville eight years ago. He was a member of Wesley Methodist Church. Survived only by his widow Minnie Anderson Akins. First wife Dorothy Akins died in 1945. Services held 10 a m Saturday at Todd Funeral Home Rushville. Burial in Town Cemetery Carthage.
The Arlington High School Music Parents Organization held a meeting in the school auditorium. Robert VanOsdel led the devotional and urged inner peace. Mrs. Darrel Ronan presided over the business session and new officers were elected: president Mrs. Darrel Ronan, vice president Mrs. William Beckmer, secretary Mrs. John Swain, and treasurer Mrs. Paul Potts.
The Carthage Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star held a regular meeting at the Masonic Hall on Wednesday night. Worthy Matron Ann Parish welcomed members and guests. Kenneth Land was installed as Associate Patron. Refreshments followed in keeping with the Easter season.
Janie Power, chair of the 4H Junior Leader activities committee, announced a May 12 record hop from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Conservation Club open to the public with a twist contest and refreshments. Junior leaders will earn at least three dollars each for an overnight trip after completing project requirements.
