The post office warns that further property destruction or theft will be reported to the Federal Government as a federal offense. The office may be closed at all times except when employees are present, per Post Master Ercel Bever Jr.
The Quaker Men’s Organization of Carthage Friends Church will oversee the Sunday service. Guest speaker will be Charles Pitt Jr., president of the Quaker Men’s Organization of Indiana Yearly Meeting.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stephens welcomed a 7 lb 3 oz daughter born Saturday at Rush Memorial hospital. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Eli Stephens of Carthage and Mr. and Mrs. William Sorrell of Knightstown.

Marie Magee's condition remains about the same in room 227 at Rush Memorial Hospital. Lon McCorkle recuperates from severe bruises and sore muscles after a fall.
Andy Taff resigns as basketball coach at Knightstown High School to take over the first squad at Clinton Central, a new consolidated school east of Frankfort. Knightstown held the East Central Conference title this season with a 16 4 record and fell to New Castle in the sectional final. Taff is a former Madison High School star and Hanover College standout.
The New York Central Railroad and the Railway Express Company petition the Indiana Public Service Commission to discontinue Milroy services and establish a new agency station. A public hearing is set for 10 a.m. Thursday April 16 at the Milroy station. a prior hearing about two years ago denied the petitions.
Dr Vernon Cole Patten a Shelby County physician since 1900 died Sunday at his Morristown home after a four months illness. A native of Shelby County he attended Butler DePauw and Indiana Universities and graduated from Indiana Medical College. He served in World War I as a Captain in the Army Medical Corps and was the first commander of the Willard E. Hensley American Legion Post 102.
Mr and Mrs Howard Henley returned home last Friday from a month long Florida trip visiting Miami and Marco Island. They called on Mr and Mrs Lawrence Braybrook at Marco Island and visited Lillian Coleman and Charles Butler. The Braybrooks welcomed a granddaughter, Marjorie Braybrook Offield, born to Virginia Braybrook who visited her grandparents Clyde and Mrs Henley of Carthage multiple times.
The Legion Post sponsors a dance at the Community Center next Saturday to raise funds for remodeling the building the Legion has purchased as their new home Abe Holiday's Combo provides the music for the event.
School page features the CHS editor's corner on maturity senior trips and events. Easter convocation honors society initiation plans and a teachers versus parents basketball game are noted along with student room notes and a look at weekly activities.
Carthage Chapter Order of The Eastern Star held a public installation Friday evening March 27. Retiring Worthy Matron Bonita Patterson and Worthy Patron Frederick Patterson were honored at the altar. Leone Mosier was installed Worthy Matron and Donald Fancher Worthy Patron with multiple officers and skits. Guests came from nearby towns as refreshments followed.
A pre-school round-up is scheduled for April 6 7 at Carthage School. The County Health nurse will give physical checkups. Children entering kindergarten report April 6 at 12 a.m. and first graders not in kindergarten last year report April 7 at 8 12 a.m. Slow time.
Easter dinner hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Lon McCorkle included guests from Indianapolis: Mr. and Mrs. Herman Brock, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Ludlow, Mrs. Esther Shepherd and children, Mr. and Mrs. Earl McCorkle, and Mrs. Howard McCorkle.
Easter greetings and dinners spread across the Knightstown region as families from Knightstown to Indianapolis joined for holiday meals. Many guests traveled from Elkhart, Purdue, Minneapolis, and Rushville to visit local hosts and attend services at First Presbyterian Church in Rushville.
Everett Macy 81 of Indianapolis formerly of Carthage died suddenly Saturday at General Hospital Indianapolis. A retired farmer, he lived in Indianapolis for 10 years, born November 1 1877 in Lewisville. Survived by sister Mrs Florence Parker and brother Owen B Macy. Funeral at Hampton Mortuary Carthage Tuesday at 2 p.m. Burial Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
Lafayette Indiana cattle industry researchers and farmers gather at Purdue University for Cattle Feeders Day. About 2,500 expected with morning tours of feeding experiments on corn silage pellets hormones tranquilizers and implants. Purdue Extension animal scientists chair and present results on fattening steers calves and beef production.Lunch by Block and Bridle Club. Afternoon program to be announced.
Purdue extension landscape architect H. W. Gilbert urges planting in southern Indiana from late March and in northern two thirds from April 1 to 20. Trees can be transplanted until end of April or longer with nurserymen advised precautions. Soak bare root stock overnight if roots are dry and avoid soil that is dry or crumbly. Use a shallow water basin, mulch or sand, and avoid chilling the soil around the tree. Mimeo HD 81-1 offers more guidance from Purdue publications.
Indiana Purdue University agricultural economists warn 1959 farm prices likely average lower than 1958 due to larger supplies. They note farm incomes down six percent so far in 1959 while production costs rose two percent. Hog prices may rise to a June peak, cows and soybeans uncertain, egg and dairy prices mixed, tomatoes and potatoes affected by acreage and stocks.
Mrs Babs Osborn and sons and Mrs Flora Heim and son were shoppers at Eastgate Thursday night. Irene McDuffey attended the funeral of Ithamer Watkins Saturday at the New Castle Bethel A M E Church.
Ithamer Watkins age 71 of New Castle formerly of Carthage died Tuesday night at Henry County hospital. Survived by widow Golda and sister Golda Watkins Mad rey Kokomo, a former teacher at Booker T. Washington School Carthage. Funeral by Stanley Mortuary held Saturday March 28 at Bethel A M E Church New Castle burial Glen Cove Cemetery Knightstown.
Mrs Edna Kennedy Mrs Ellen Foust and Mrs Mary Nigh taught at the church Sunday School. After the Saturday event they provided refreshments for their class members. Class I winners include Carl Nigh Tina Lacy Vicki Land and Carmen Addison. Class II winners include Mark Carson Randy Nigh Mike Davis. Class III winners include David Whitfield Judy Zimmerman and Ricky Hampton.
Mr and Mrs Hoyt Addison and children Linda Peffer and Mrs Clara McClain were Easter dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Omer Heim and their children.
