Civil War Narrative in Vermilion Volunteer's Second Issue

A facsimile of The Volunteer dated Nov 7 1868 recounts the 16th Ind Regt with Henry B Hill as Quartermaster. Elwood Hill captained 41 men from Carthage. two survivors Will T Hill and Will Walker. The 61st Regt from Ripley under Capt Cox faced raids from Maryland to Louisiana with bold river actions and railroad destruction. The piece describes Arkansas Post, Yazoo, gunboats, and heavy battlefield noise.
