Holy Week Services Planned by Local Churches

Holy Week services scan the week of April 13 with events at Carthage Friends Church led by Rev. Robert Golding, Wes leyan Methodist Church, and separate Thursday services. A fire at a north Carthage residence owned by the Nerius Heathcoth family destroyed the house and belongings of the Oscar Dyer family. Discovered around 4 30 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters found the structure a total loss with contents burned beyond recovery.

Rites Held For Phillip Sattler

Phillip Joseph Sattler 88 retired farmer died at his home in Carthage at 4 p.m. Friday after years of declining health. Born September 19 1876 in Cedar Grove Franklin County he moved to Carthage as a young man. Survived by nieces and nephews his wife Addie Reddick Sattler died in 1964. He belonged to St Rose of Lima Church Knightstown with services conducted by Rev James Shanahan at 10 a.m. Monday Burial was in Riverside Cemetery Carthage.

Ball State concert showcases Indiana high school choirs

Lynn Kennedy, son of Mr and Mrs Raymond Kennedy, participated in the Ball State University Concert at Emens Auditorium last Sunday. The event, part of Choir Day, featured 21 Indiana high school choirs with performances by Ball State’s Concert Choir Men’s Glee Club University Singers and the Trombone and Trumpet choirs under Don Neuen.

Ball State Theater Show includes local family members

New Carthage sewerage system opens to customers

Carthage town authorities announce the new sewerage system nears full readiness with some taps available. The council approved a $1 tap fee and free in home inspection, hired inspectors, and outlined collection measures for the minimum $3.90 monthly sewer charge. Delegates discussed fringe-area annexation, pipe choices, and budget provisions as parts of the final phase.

Ohio Man Jessie James Gorman Dies at 73

Jessie James Gorman 73 of Sinking Springs Ohio died Saturday April 3 at his home. Funeral services 2:30 pm at the Wylie Home with burial nearby. Survived by wife Eva four daughters Joan Caplinger Dorothy McNelly Ruth Romans Lucille Grubb all of Ohio one son Thomas Gorman of Carthage two brothers and sisters 17 grandchildren 12 great grandchildren Two sons preceded him in death. Services Held Friday for Catherine Mercer

Mrs. Catherine Mercer of Connersville died last Wednesday in Connersville hospital at 93. Survived by seven children, two sisters Mrs. Frank Bever of Carthage and Mrs. Leona Hoagland of Hebron, Indiana, and two brothers. Funeral services were held Friday in Cambridge City with burial at Dublin. Carthage and Mrs. Leona Hoagland attended.

Local Couple’s Son Promoted at Fort Wadsworth

First Lt. E Terrence Mc Garry, post signal officer at Fort Wadsworth, was promoted on March 28. Col. Stuart G Fries and Lt. Col. Alvin C Metcalfe pinned silver bars as Maj. Gen. Chester L Johnson and Metcalfe looked on. Mc Garry, son of Edward and Mary McGarry of Carthage Indiana, is a Rutgers graduate and Morristown, New Jersey native. He previously attended the U S Army Southeast Signal School at Ft Gordon and is responsible for communications and photographic facilities at the post.
