Local offices and businesses announce adjusted hours for Good Friday with many listings closing earlier than usual. Authorities urge residents to plan ahead for holiday access and service changes across city agencies and shops.
Visiting son Roy Turner and wife from Carthage travel from Indianapolis by train to Garden City South Dakota to visit Rev. Paul Turner his wife and daughter Joy. The association will close 1 to 3 p m on Good Friday April 16 during services.
Mr and Mrs Roy Stanley and Mr and Mrs Howard Linville attended a district farm bureau dinner meeting Saturday night at the Southwestern School in Shelby County.
Mr and Mrs Paul Jackson of Hobart Indiana announce the birth of a 5 pound 6 ounce girl named Phyllis Elizabeth born on April 1 1965. The infant is the granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Leonard Jarrett near Fort Wayne Indiana and Mr and Mrs Leonard Jackson of Carthage R2.
Charles Mosier returned home Sunday from Community Hospital in Indianapolis. Clancy Nigh of Allegan Michigan underwent surgery at St. Francis Hospital Indianapolis last week and his room number is 437. Mrs Wm Skinner is a patient at Community Hospital in Indianapolis.
Holy Week services scan the week of April 13 with events at Carthage Friends Church led by Rev. Robert Golding, Wes leyan Methodist Church, and separate Thursday services. Good Friday service set for April 16 at Fletcher Methodist at 1 30 p m with Rev. Paul Boulton speaking. Easter sunrise at East St Christian Church is 6 am with breakfast and Rev. Leonard Bucy delivering the message. Everyone invited.
A baby girl was born Monday to Mr and Mrs James Ridt of R R 1 Carthage. The birth adds a new member to the Ridt family at their rural route home.
A fire at a north Carthage residence owned by the Nerius Heathcoth family destroyed the house and belongings of the Oscar Dyer family. Discovered around 4 30 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters found the structure a total loss with contents burned beyond recovery.
Mr and Mrs Thomas Bush returned home by jet plane to Indianapolis Tuesday after a fifteen day vacation in California They visited San Francisco Watsonville and Los Angeles during their trip.
A2C and Mrs Ronald Magee of Kincheloe Air Force Base Michigan announce the birth of a son Brent Thomas born April 1 1965 weighing 5 pounds 14 ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs James Mendicino of Michigan and Mr and Mrs William Fred Magee of Carthage.
The first three classes of the Methodist Church will enjoy an Easter egg hunt on Thursday April 15 at 2 30 p m at the church.
The American Legion announces a regular meeting on Wednesday night April 14 at 8 p.m. at the Community Center. All Legion members are urged to attend.

Phillip Joseph Sattler 88 retired farmer died at his home in Carthage at 4 p.m. Friday after years of declining health. Born September 19 1876 in Cedar Grove Franklin County he moved to Carthage as a young man. Survived by nieces and nephews his wife Addie Reddick Sattler died in 1964. He belonged to St Rose of Lima Church Knightstown with services conducted by Rev James Shanahan at 10 a.m. Monday Burial was in Riverside Cemetery Carthage.
Lynn Kennedy, son of Mr and Mrs Raymond Kennedy, participated in the Ball State University Concert at Emens Auditorium last Sunday. The event, part of Choir Day, featured 21 Indiana high school choirs with performances by Ball State’s Concert Choir Men’s Glee Club University Singers and the Trombone and Trumpet choirs under Don Neuen.
Mr and Mrs Harold Hardin and daughter Janie of Gwynneville attended the Ball State University Theater production Once Upon A Mattress withPhillip Hardin a freshman in the cast. They later joined Rushville and Ball State choirs at Emens auditorium for Choir Day activities and an evening concert featuring Concert Choir Men's Glee Club and University Singers. Phillip Hardin is a Glee Club member.

Property is Lot 5 Original Plat Cardage with 70 feet off east side. Plaintiff seeks first mortgage lien and sale of the property to satisfy the debt.
Jeannine Terhune a Carthage High School graduate and Taylor University junior is chosen among 40 singers for the spring Taylor University Chorale tour April 16 to 25 through mid western states and Canada. Terhune serves as academic editor of Ilium secretary of the Trojan Players and member of multiple student groups.
The O. E. S. regular stated meeting will be held Wednesday April 14. This will be obligation night and installation for two officers. Members are asked to come formal.
The Carthage High School Student Council schedules an Easter convocation in the gym at 3:00 p.m. on April 14 with Rev. Paul C. Boulton addressing students. The CHS Chorus will perform The Everlasting God and The Holy City and join Easter services at East Street Christian Church.
Carthage town authorities announce the new sewerage system nears full readiness with some taps available. The council approved a $1 tap fee and free in home inspection, hired inspectors, and outlined collection measures for the minimum $3.90 monthly sewer charge. Delegates discussed fringe-area annexation, pipe choices, and budget provisions as parts of the final phase.
Jessie James Gorman 73 of Sinking Springs Ohio died Saturday April 3 at his home. Funeral services 2:30 pm at the Wylie Home with burial nearby. Survived by wife Eva four daughters Joan Caplinger Dorothy McNelly Ruth Romans Lucille Grubb all of Ohio one son Thomas Gorman of Carthage two brothers and sisters 17 grandchildren 12 great grandchildren Two sons preceded him in death. Carthage relatives attended including Thomas Gorman Sr and family Mike Ramona Deanna Donald Campbell Mary Gorman and children Larry John Pat James Gorman and Theresa from South Carolina.
Mrs. Catherine Mercer of Connersville died last Wednesday in Connersville hospital at 93. Survived by seven children, two sisters Mrs. Frank Bever of Carthage and Mrs. Leona Hoagland of Hebron, Indiana, and two brothers. Funeral services were held Friday in Cambridge City with burial at Dublin. Carthage and Mrs. Leona Hoagland attended.
Mrs Hubert Hunt and Mrs Ralph McClarnon attended the National Ballet of Canada performance at Clowes Hall. Miss Lois Gochnauer a Butler University graduate and friend of Miss Pam Hunt is a member of the ballet.
First Lt. E Terrence Mc Garry, post signal officer at Fort Wadsworth, was promoted on March 28. Col. Stuart G Fries and Lt. Col. Alvin C Metcalfe pinned silver bars as Maj. Gen. Chester L Johnson and Metcalfe looked on. Mc Garry, son of Edward and Mary McGarry of Carthage Indiana, is a Rutgers graduate and Morristown, New Jersey native. He previously attended the U S Army Southeast Signal School at Ft Gordon and is responsible for communications and photographic facilities at the post.
