Morristown High School coach Norman Morris is nominated as Coach Of The Year by Ball State Teachers College of Muncie. His Morristown teams have won 38 of 48 games in two seasons, including a 28 5 record this season and a Rushville Sectional title.
Den No 2 gathered at James Whitfield home to plan an April skit about the Wright Brothers and plane changes. David Whitfield and Skipper Edwards are set as Wright Brothers. after training outside, attendees returned for refreshments served by Mike Joseph. We sang She ll Be Coming Round the Mountain. The Hubert Hunt Frigidaire Coin-Operated Laundry on East Mill Street in the former American Legion Building is progressing rapidly and should open in two to three weeks. Concrete flooring and much plumbing are finished, and the drain exit to Mill Street sewer is completed.
Eugene Miekush of Carthage returned home last Friday from Rochester Minnesota after a few days at the Mayo Clinic. Jerry Edwards remains about the same at the Methodist Hospital near Carthage following a week of observation and treatment.
A new Cub Scout troop, Den No. 3, formed in Carthage with Mrs. Harold Chew as Den Mother. First meeting held last week. Members include Mike Chew Raymond Richmond Mike Lynch Joe Cline and Brent Lord. They will meet every Monday after school.

Hamil D. Henley was admitted to Rush Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, undergoing initial evaluation and observation at the medical facility.

Born last Thursday March 30 a girl to Mr and Mrs Herman Logan of Carthage at Rush Memorial Hospital. Born Saturday April 1 a boy to Mr and Mrs Benjamin Conley of Carthage at Rush Memorial Hospital.
The Ripley Township WCTU will hold a Spring Institute with Charlottesville WCTU on Thursday April 13 at the home of Mrs Mildred Nigh. Morning session starts 10 30 a m and a pitch in dinner is at noon. An afternoon speaker will address attendees.
On Sunday night March 26 the Senior MYF elected new officers for the coming year. Officers include president Lou Magee vice president Reta Stanley secretary Frances Magee treasurer Lynn Kennedy program chairman Sue Siler song leader Jeannine Terhune recreation Betty Harris Cheryl Magee MYF council Dave Miller Larry Nigh and John Terhune. The group adjourned to attend the Holy Week service and thanks patrons of their March 25 nut sale which earned about 40 dollars.

First grade students celebrated birthdays for Cynthia Wilson and Tommy Muir while library activities begin with home books and a new library corner. Teachers hosted parties, a greenhouse project started in Mrs Alexander's room, and a space project to be prepared. A talk on Easter was given by Mr Mayfield.

Marine Corporal Jack A. Smith of Carthage Indiana serves aboard USS Yorktown based in Long Beach California. He will participate in a large U S Pacific Fleet exercise Spring 1961 called Green Light led by Vice Admiral Melson. The three phase operation runs April 3 to June 3 involves over 50 000 personnel 150 ships and 300 aircraft to test Navy and Marine power and readiness.
Mrs. Theresa Souder aged 90 of 119 Meek Street Greenfield died Sunday after a long illness. Born January 4 1871 in Rush County she was a longtime Hancock County resident and member of the Greenfield Christian Church Royal Neighbors and Pocahontas Lodges. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Greenfield Chapel Hendryx Fields Mortuary with Rev C T Herrod officiating. Interment followed in Park Cemetery Greenfield.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Flanner Buchanan Mortuary for John Heim 53 of Indianapolis a former Carthage resident who died suddenly of a heart attack at home. He was a Ball State graduate and led a manufacturing agency in Indianapolis with regional representation. Survivors include his wife Mary a daughter Judy and several siblings. Entombment followed at Washington Park Mausoleum.
A preschool day for children entering first grade this fall is planned for April 10 and 11. Children must be six by October 15 and must be accompanied by a parent. On April 10, last names A through G report. on April 11, H through Z report. Held at 8:30 a.m. in the High School Kindergarten room.
Mr and Mrs Larry Morris of near Wilkinson announce the birth of a 9 lb 2% oz daughter named Jerri Jan born March 31 at Hancock County Hospital Greenfield. She is the granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Clarence Heim of Carthage and Mr and Mrs Charles Morris of Avilla Indiana.
The Carthage PTO will meet Tuesday April 11 in the school gym. An open house runs 6 30 to 7 30 p m followed by a brief PTO business meeting.
Jeannine Terhune, a junior at Carthage High School, won five dollars in the Carthage American Legion Auxiliary contest for an essay titled Communism Our Active Enemy. Her piece argues Communism as a global threat and urges continued anti-Communist efforts and the defense of American freedoms.
Posey Township Farm Bureau met Monday night at the Arlington School with Richard Newhouse as guest speaker. The State Legislature joint Senator gave a resume of his work and discussed bills and voting processes. Otto Walke reported on the District 8 Farm Bureau meeting at Shelbyville. Devotions were by Eugene Kemple. Francis and Mrs. Dyer chaired the social hour.
Congressman Ralph Harvey of Indiana addressed the 11th Annual Conference of the National Institute of Animal Agriculture at Purdue University. He urged livestock perspectives in policy, criticized feed grain allotments, and cautioned that foreign surplus programs fail to solve surplus feed grain issues. He stressed free enterprise and warned against reliance on government controls.
John White a prominent farmer from west of Carthage was named Outstanding Farm Leader at the Rushville Annual Achievement Banquet. His photograph will be added to the Rush County Hall of Fame.
The Arlington junior high and high school basketball teams and cheerleaders were honored at the PTA cooperative banquet held in the gym last Friday. About 200 attendees heard Principal Wilbur Hardin introduce Angus Nicoson, Indiana Central College coach, who spoke on "The Laboratory of Life." Awards were presented by Coach Marvin Knoop and assistants Bill Wilt and James Winton amid purple and white decorations.
Mrs Alma Reddick of Mays hosted Easter dinner with guests including Leonard and Marylin Jackson of Ball State College and Paul Jackson of Mooresville along with the Reddick family. Numerous relatives from Carmel to Greenfield visited or stayed through Easter weekend, with reunions at homes near Carthage and Madison and visits by students from Ball State University and Taylor University.
