Alhambra Theatre in Knightstown announces a two weeks engagement of the film Ben Hur and its academy award winning production. Tickets and showtimes are listed elsewhere in the issue with page 2 ad.
Mrs. Virginia Wells and her daughter Miss Linda Wells modeled in the Do It Yourself Style Show during Western Electric Spring Women’s Party at the Egyptian Room in the Murat Temple Indianapolis. About six hundred women employees attended the event with a cocktail hour dinner and program. Mrs. Carr of Knightstown and granddaughter Sarah Carr joined the Wells for Monday rehearsal with Mrs. Carr serving as substitute pianist.
Me thodist Church announces a new start time for its egg hunt now set for Saturday at 2 p m. The change invites families to join the annual Easter event.
Parents of Boy Scouts Troop 129 are invited to a meeting on Saturday April 1 at 7:00 in the Community Center. Lions Club members interested in Scouts should attend. Mr. Finehout district committee man will help form committees and define their functions.
The Better Business Association of Carthage to give away four picnic hams and four hams this Saturday at 7 p.m. in downtown Carthage.
Den meeting held Monday at Mrs. Richard McNabb’s home with all members and one guest. The group opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Joseph Whitfield was elected new denner. Refreshments were served. Denner Rick Hampton.
On April 6 and 7 at 8:00 p.m. Arlington High School presents The Magic Touch. The Braddock family day unfolds with Bobbette transforming from tomboy to glamorous youth amid comic incidents featuring Socko and the Dirty Dozen.
Mrs. Fern Revolt returned home from Rush Memorial Hospital Sunday. Mrs. John Blessinger of Arlington underwent surgery last Thursday at Rush Memorial. Mrs. Stanley Hawkins convalesces at home, slowly improving after four weeks. Parvel Moore returned Tuesday from Rush Memorial Hospital and is slowly recovering from surgery. Mrs. Anna Bunyard is critical at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. she is well known in Carthage and mother of Mrs. Fred Magee Jr. of Carthage.

A WSCS market event scheduled for Saturday is canceled following the death of a church member. The notice requests community understanding and notes rescheduling considerations.
A series of special services starts Sunday April 9 at 10 30 a m and runs through April 16 at Carthage Friends Meeting. Rev Miller Lydick of Washington Penna will be guest speaker. Evening services at 7 30 with two services on April 9 and 16. Everyone welcome.

A school column highlights student achievement in athletics and academics. Senior Athlete Dean Gardner Tom Roberts earns a senior award jacket for track cross country and B-team ball. He has 10 minor letters and is NHS member treasurer of class and yearbook staff.
A sophomore girls health class surveyed grade school meals showing lower grades fare better for breakfasts and milk consumption. Overall 6 percent had no breakfast and 33 percent had no milk, prompting a school milk plan and parental support. Carthage High students shined at Rushville regional English with Carolyn Blessinger among top ten. classmates Cathy Ruby and Pam Hunt also ranked.

Rush County REMC has been approved for a 100000 loan from the Rural Electrification Administration in Washington. The loan will fund 15 miles of distribution lines to serve 75 new rural consumers and improve service in Rush Fayette Franklin and Decatur counties. Hugh Weber signed the application for the loan which will expand total lines to 658 miles serving 3038 consumers in the four counties.
WIBC broadcaster Harry Andrews will MC the Carthage Lions Club talent show at the Carthage Community Center on Friday April 7 at 8 p.m. A supper precedes the program in the basement. Lions chairmen Jim Ellis Jack Tweedy Rev. Herman Parker and Guy Ewing coordinate acts and food as several out of town guest performances are planned.
Lion Hubert Hunt presided as officers heard a Scout committee report on Boy Scout activities. Bob Winters named institutional representative for scouting next year. Talent Show plans were set for Friday April 7 with a committee to secure ads. Father Shannahan of St Rose Church gave Holy Week message.

Dr and Mrs Richard McNabb of Carthage attended the National Ortho Psychiatric Convention in New York City from Wednesday to Saturday, marking a professional gathering for orthopedic and psychiatric specialists.
Mr and Mrs Edward Fenner visited Mr and Mrs Edward Litch enburg Sunday in Indianapolis. Guests of Dr and Mrs George McNabb included brother David McNabb of Bedford. Oliver Earnest visited Shel byville with the Whitakers. Stanley Hankins hosted visitors including William Kinnett Leland Hankins Rev Gene Miller and wife and child. Charles Whitfield and children Amy and Joe hosted Mrs Lowell Brown and kids Jerry and Linda. Melissa Jane McMichael spent weekend with grandparents Elmer McMichael Sr near Rushville. Kenneth Rhodes dined Centerville and toured Richmond. Worth Pitts family hosted Lestie Heifner Noah Leisure Robert Wilson Grant Stewart Shirley Clutter and Ruby Wilson from Greenfield.
Mrs. Maude Webb 69 of Carthage died Wednesday at 8 am in Community Hospital Indianapolis after long illness. Born October 10 1891 near Arlington she married Everette Webb in 1910 who survives. Funeral Saturday at 2 pm Hampton Mortuary Carthage with Rev Herman Parker officiating. Burial East Hill Arlington.
Mrs Goldie Watkins Madry of Kokomo formerly Carthage was killed instantly in an auto wreck near Marion this week. Mr Madry was injured. Survived by husband and two children. Daughter of the late John Wesley Watkins and Ethalinda Watkins of Carthage. She graduated Carthage class of 1908 and attended alumni meetings. Funeral services set for Saturday in Kokomo.
The Rush County Extension Advisory Committee met March 27 at the County Extension Office with Robert White presiding. They discussed obtaining an assistant county agent and reviewed 4H and Home Economic activities plus upcoming events for the next month. The group reaffirmed the Extension Service objective to provide youth with learning experiences preparing for adult responsibility and planned next steps for 1961. The next meeting is set for Monday evening, April 24.
County Extension Office reports 4H enrollment for ages 10 to 20 with 34 projects offered. Agricultural division covers gilt, litter, barrow, beef, dairy, lamb, garden, corn, wheat and more. Home Ec lists 10 projects. Enrollment cards available from local club leaders. Mrs. Elbert Crowder of Kokomo hosted overnight with sister Mrs. Harold Dixon and family.
William H. Skinner a Ripley Township trustee was named director of the State Personnel Board by Governor Mathew Welsh. Skinner previously served in the post under Governor Schricker. His successor as trustee will be chosen by Rush County Commissioners after his resignation.
The Carthage area forms the Mixed Couples League with eight teams in a seven week round robin. Teams include Wildcats HITS and Mrs Checkmates Rubicans The Doubtfuls Carthage Larks Pinbusters and the L Hs with Tuesday night play and first week results reported.
Edward K. Fenner of Carthage R R 1 died suddenly at 9 30 p m Wednesday at his home. Born January 22 1893 in Marion County he was a farmer who moved to Carthage in 1942. Survived by wife Esta born April 4 1915 son Elmer Fenner one grandson and brother Arthur of Indianapolis. Funeral 10 30 a m Saturday at Fletcher Methodist Church with Rev Paul Mayfield officiating. Burial Memorial Park Cemetery Indianapolis. Friends may call Friday afternoon at Hampton Funeral Home Carthage. body in state at church after 9 a m Saturday until service.
