James H. Wells of Carthage suffered severe burns to his left hand and wrist and an electrical shock in an accident at the Alsta Container plant in Carthage on Friday afternoon. He was transported to Rush Memorial Hospital and released, now recovering at home on South Main Street.
Born Sunday a boy to Mr and Mrs Robert Hamilton of Carthage at Rush Memorial Hospital. Born Wednesday a girl to Mr and Mrs Samuel Gray of R A 2. Carthage Town Council met in regular monthly session Monday night approving routine matters and bills.
Kirby Overman a teacher and assistant coach in Arlington announced his resignation to take a similar job at North Vermilion High School. He will join Donald Medrick Arlington principal who earlier accepted an administrative position in Vermilion County’s new school system.
Greenfield swept first in all events to defeat Carthage 99 to 10. Carthage lone points came from Jackson second in high hurdles Spence second in broad jump Jordan second in shot put and Grizzell third in broad jump. Mike Rowland clocked 51.6 in the 440 and Don Dismore threw 49 feet 5 1 4 inches to set a new Greenfield record.

Wm. Harold Dixon attended the Installment Credit Conference Wednesday afternoon at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Motel, a program sponsored by the Indiana Bankers Association.
Mrs. Fred McManus and Mr. McManus welcomed guests over the weekend including Elmer Parshall and his wife of Centerville. John Holloway and Gilbert McManus with their wives from Indianapolis. Warren Stevens and family of Brunswick Ohio. Maurice McManus and Al Green of Orlando Florida who has stayed several weeks.
Mrs. Clara Evelyn Bowden 68 of 710 North Main Street Carthage died suddenly of a heart attack at 8 p.m. Monday while riding home in a car driven by her husband Arthur Bowden. Born September 10 1895 in Centreville R I she had lived in Carthage since 1924. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Women of the Moose. Surviving are her husband a daughter Mrs. Theodore Brooks a brother Anthony McPeak six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A son Charles died in 1959. Services were held at Hampton Mortuary Carthage with burial in Town Cemetery.
Mrs. Freda Schneider 51 of Carthage was trampled and injured while mushroom hunting on her farm. She lay unable to move for about four hours before husband Ed found her and rescue workers transported her to Memorial Hospital in fair condition with pelvic and leg fractures.
Saturday evening guests of Mr and Mrs Norman Fuchs included Mr and Mrs Wallace Fuchs Mrs Bessie Fuchs Mr and Mrs Donald Fuchs all Blue Ridge Ind and Mrs Bernice Mohr Waldron who attended the Carthage Junior Class Play at the Community Center.
Mrs Benny Kelly of Anchorage Alaska writes her parents about the second earthquake in Anchorage. She notes nervousness and unsettled feelings among residents. Water supplies are improving due to repairs, and a downtown bank near the J C Penney store destroyed by the quake employs staff on shortened morning hours while repairs continue. She praises Salvation Army and Civil Defense Units for aiding the Army during the disaster.
Bayard Baker retired Carthage teacher was honored last week when Ca-Hi-Ana 1964 was dedicated to him at a school convocation. He taught English and history from 1924 to 1951 and was senior class sponsor from 1925 to 1951, noted for teaching Lincoln and Shakespeare.
Mrs. Martha Crusier spoke at the Carthage Legion Auxiliary meeting about Civil Defense work and a county nursing program. A free Rushville class for women will meet Tuesdays 7 to 9 p.m. Crusier, a nursing course graduate, will assist. The group read correspondence and minutes, discussed new unit books, and noted a $25 Lions Club sponsorship for Girls State with Julie Ewing chosen as representative. Refreshments followed.
State police and county sheriff investigate the theft of a $2000 coon hound named Rebel from the Richard Bonne farm four miles southwest of Carthage. The dog, white with markings and tattooed ear, was removed from a steel leash. reward offers $100 for return.
Indiana School Music Association Choral Auditions at Cambridge City Parkways School Auditorium Saturday April 11 at 8 15 AM. The 54 member chorus performs three numbers Praise The Lord His Glories Show I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked and The Prayer from Hansel and Gretel. Triple Trio to sing Sunday at Knightstown Christian Church. Girls sang Palm Sunday East Street Christian Church and Fletcher Methodist Church Easter Sunday. Cafeteria menus listed for Wednesday through Friday with dishes and milk.
Carthage Library announces its board members as Library Week runs April 12 to 18 with the theme Reading Is the Key. The article notes gifts from a local sorority and American Legion Auxiliary supporting books and memory donations from others.

Genesius of Taylor University presents He Came See ing by Mary Hamlin at Carthage Methodist Church in Upland Indiana on Sunday April 19 at 7 30 p m admission free with a free will offering. The drama follows a blind man Joab and his confrontation with family neighbors and religion over the source of his sight. A prologue places events in a modern context with contemporary costumes. Director Jim Young and Tom Ringenberg lead a cast including Dale Lantz Brian Brightly Bob Finch Dayle Dickey Carl Haaland Joan Templin Wanda Whalen David Dickey Beverly Petterson Helen LaDuke and others from area colleges.
Mrs Albert Ray and Mrs Loyal Hunt attended Flower Show School last Wednesday and Thursday at the Severin Hotel in Indianapolis. Mrs Lloyd Manuel accompanied them on Wednesday. Saturday, Mrs Hunt, Mrs Ray, Mrs Manuel and Mrs Hazel Cooper of New Castle attended a district Violet Meeting at the Marion YMCA in Marion Indiana.

The 1964 Carthage High School Alumni Association announces Alumni Day on May 16 with Open House 3 to 5 pm, banquet at 6:30 pm in the Community Center, and an Alumni Ball 9 to 12 pm. Menu includes Swiss steak, baked potato, green beans, slaw, rolls, coffee or iced tea, and pie. The event honors the classes of 1914 and 1939. Admission 1.75 per plate, dance 1.25 single 2.00 couple. Alumni Club costs 1.00 per alumnus. Tickets available at Carthage businesses.
On April 7 at 7 o clock in the school gym 14 Carthage Band seniors were surprised as they became the stars of a This Is Your Life program with Band Director Bob Edwards playing Ralph Edwards. About 85 attended the evening event with refreshments served in the cafeteria after a short business meeting led by president Mrs Dale May.
