Carthage merchants will close from 1 to 3 p m on Friday in observance of Good Friday. Services are planned for 8 p m at the Fletcher Methodist Church new addition.

Miss Bettina Murray of Indiana University will appear on the television show Starmaker Revue from Cincinnati Sunday at noon. Channels No 2 and 5 will carry the program featuring finalist winners. Mr and Mrs W H Skinner of Carthage will accompany Miss Murray to Cincinnati.
Roy E. Harrold announces Rush County February sales totals of 27196.77 dollars, up from 15102.78 the year before. Indiana counties overall report 29 of 92 counties with gains, statewide sales 12864789 dollars versus 14582920 the prior year, an 11 percent decline.
The Carthage Rural Fire Department answered a call Wednesday afternoon to a shed fire at the home of George Apple east of Carthage. A tool shed was ablaze and firefighters contained the blaze.
The public is invited to Easter Sunrise Service Sunday March 29 at 7 a.m. A breakfast will follow. Special Easter Services Sunday School at 9 30 and Morning Worship at 10 30 a.m.
The first three classes of the Methodist Sunday School will meet Saturday at 1 30 p.m. at the church for an Easter egg hunt. All children of these classes are urged to come.
Marion Stewart son of Mr and Mrs Forrest Stewart received his army discharge at Burker Hill Indiana on Tuesday March 17th. The Stewarts are now living in Carthage.
The Junior 4-H Club gathered last Friday with David Hunt presiding in place of Mike Lafuse. The meeting began with the Lord's Prayer and the 4-H pledge, roll call asked for favorite president, songs were led by Paul Cooper, and pencils from the Officers' Training Session were distributed by Mr. Addison. Rick Patton.
The Carthage Citizen will raise yearly subscriptions to 2.50 dollars starting April 1 due to higher postal and production costs. Renewals in arrears and new subscriptions before April 1 remain at 2.00 dollars. after April 1 the rate becomes 2.50.

The Rush County Extension Advisory Executive committee met in the County Extension Office on Wednesday evening March 18. Chairman Robert White led the session while Purdue University agent Phil Connelly explained the committee’s roles. They reviewed the recent annual meeting and began plans for next year’s event in early February. The group discussed various Extension Program items and voted to meet monthly to shape the long-range plan.

The Carth Democratic party held a Tuesday evening gathering on March 24 to prepare for the town election. Robert Walker presided, James Webb was made temporary chair, and Webb, Humes, Gardner, and King were elected to the top posts. The committee will call a convention to nominate six ward trustees and a clerk treasurer.
Mrs Della Rumple was a guest for two days last week of Mr and Mrs Lloyd Rumple in Indianapolis and also visited Mr and Mrs Noah Rumple in the same city.
The Carthage Future Farmers of America elected Ron Sullivan as president with Ron Myers presiding. Other officers named include Bill Muir as vice president and Richard Jackson as secretary, along with treasurer Joe Foust, reporter Clem Smith, assistant reporter Raymond Plue, sentinel Ron Draper, and parliamentarian Mike Heim. Judy Harrold named Sweetheart for the coming year.
Robert McKain was recommended by President Eisenhower to the Senate for approval Wednesday for the position of local postmaster. He had recently been endorsed by local Republican party leaders and the Bush County Republican organization.
The thirteenth annual Egg and Easter exhibit runs Saturday at the Rush County courthouse with 4-H classes for eggs and baskets and open divisions for various egg and centerpiece categories. Prizes and ribbons are offered, a 4-H banner for the top club, and exhibitors may sell items after the show financed by the United Fund.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Jackley Funeral Home Elwood for George J. Sattler 78 who died Saturday at Mercy hospital Elwood. He lived in and around Elwood most of his life worked for Fetting Canning Co. and was a member of the Lutheran Church and Fraternal Order of the Deaf. Survivors include his widow Flossie Sattler three daughters Mabel Edgell Ruth Corbett Betty Jarrett two sons Carl Earl Sattler two brothers Phillip Carthage Joseph South Bend and a sister Mary Dietz Lawrenceburg.
Carol Ewing of Carthage was named queen of the Purdue royal livestock show with Ruth Ann Bright Lydia Martin dale Mary Esther Harper and Carolyn Kattmann as court members. Hubert Johnson West Lafayette crowned champion showman and beef cattle champ. Frank Larson Windfall led top sheep show, Richard Nash Sharpsville won swine, Stanley Poe Franklin won the sheep shearing contest. Ewing attends Purdue on a Kappa Kappa Sigma Rushville scholarship.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Flick visited friends in Indianapolis and Anderson Sunday and dined with E. P. Stanley in Mays. Guests included the Castner family and Robert and Charles Roland. Many visits span Indianapolis Newark and Knightstown with related dinners and Easter plans. Dine out note and illness recovery are also mentioned.

Private funeral held at 2 p m Wednesday at Hampton Funeral Home Carthage. Survivors include widow Anna Foust and stepson Russell Hunt of Pomona California. Burial at Town Cemetery Carthage.
The Easter play The Chancel Lily will be shown Sunday evening at Walnut Ridge Friends Church at 7 30. Cast is composed of church members.
