Carrollton High defeated Mesquite and then fell to Garland in a doubleheader of basketball games. The report notes Cowboys and Green Wave matchups with local standings and game details.
President Truman delivers a message to the Boy Scouts of America on their 38th anniversary, praising their record and role in strengthening family, community, nation, and world. He is greeted by Mrs Truman and D A Huey, with Council leaders in attendance. The report also notes Carrollton High School basketball results, including a 44-29 win for the boys over Mesquite and a 45-14 loss for the girls.
The Atmarani family expresses heartfelt thanks for kind words and expressions of sympathy received during their bereavement.
The Woman's Study Club met in February in Mrs Rex Good's home with 10 members and two guests present. Mrs Vera Lowrey and Mrs Dindy Kelly attended as guests. Mrs Vera Lowrey and Mrs Jack Stapton showed slides from a trip through Walloon Tone National Park. refreshments were served after the program.
Women's society of Christian service met Monday evening in the St Wesley Church auditorium. A report of activities was given and plans for the year were discussed and voted on. Bazaars and a White Kitchen were planned for later, and Week of Prayer plans were outlined. Mrs. A T Burton of Girland served as president and gave an engaging talk on the scope of the WSCS program. A social hour followed.
A February meeting of the Farmers Branch Order of Sabern Star honored Deputy Grand Matron Grace Hart. The event drew 81 members and celebrated the 30th anniversary for Mrs Elizabeth Reeder who received a life membership certificate. Refreshments included birthday cake and coffee.
The Coppell Ladies of the Baptist Church met at Mrs. Ray Sarden’s home for a Wednesday noon luncheon. The Christian Church announces a Sunday guest speaker Dr. John Mitchell of Portland Oregon. Mitchell, vice president of the Multnomah Behood of the Bible and pastor of Central Bible Church, is a renowned Bible teacher. All not regularly attending elsewhere are invited to attend.
The Texas State College for Women marks its forty third anniversary with a Founder's Day broadcast over WFAA on February 14 from 4 to 4 30. Sponsored by the Ex-Students Association, the 30 minute program honors Dr H Hubbard longtime president, Mrs Herbert C Hale Dallas president of the association, and Adele Austin Dallas president of the TSCW student body. A musical program by the TSCW Symphony Orchestra directed by Laurin Prost and the Mosinen Chorus directed by Dr William Jones will be featured. The association invites ex alums and friends to listening parties for the broadcast.
Carrollvon Telephone exchange was robbed Friday night around 11 48 pm by thieves entering the building and taking copper wire. Night operator Miss Alva Milloway alerted city marshal Ernest Hobby Jamon and night watchman Ray Loving who fired three shots at a fleeing maroon Mercury sedan near Dickinson Furniture Company.
Dr Rhea Williams of North Texas State College urges a four point plan to improve school and home health. The program covers student screening environmental control improved education and community cooperation to reduce future health costs and military ineligibility notes.
Mr and Mrs H Stout hosted an open house at 2310 North Henderson to announce the engagement of Miss Sarah Skinner to Le Roy Smith of Springfield The bride to be is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles G Skinner of Carrollton The wedding is planned for Springfield date to be announced later Mrs Hal O Yoakum presided over the ceremony with a second hour by Mrs KD Trusier Other attendees included Mrs Briaower Mrs O J Henson and Mrs H W Schaefer
W J Gravley of Carrollton elected to fill the unexpired term as Post Adjutant of the Carrollton American Legion at a meeting Tuesday night in the Black Shop. Gravley succeeded Philip Darver, also of Carrollton.
Carrollton high school seniors may enter the 1948 Texas A&M College scholarships program. The competition funds sixteen four year awards of 200 to 300 dollars yearly plus student jobs. Entries are being distributed by BG Perryman secretary of the scholarship committee and applications must be filed with local principals.
