Carrollton High School basketball team played four games in a busy week. They defeated Richardson 14-13 in a Monday night game and beat Richardson again 38-23 in another contest. A 20-19 result followed in the regular schedule with more scores listed for the two midweek games.
Dallas voters defeated the Clinger road and bridge plan while Carrollton supported it by 5 to 2. Low turnout roiled by bad weather in Dallas County and rural areas, with Belt Line Road rebuilding dropped from the proposed plan.
Barbara Johnson, daughter of Lester P. Johnson of Carrollton, earned her bachelor of business administration with honors at North Texas State College winter commencement. About 160 degrees were awarded including 142 bachelor’s, 71 master’s. Adolphus D. Moore of Mounton spoke.
The Woman's Study Club met at the home of Mrs A Krise with president Mrs John Mitchell opening. Dallas guest Mrs J La Hrewater led a discussion on the Pyramids and ancient peoples while eleven members attended and refreshments were served.
DALLAB Tenas Rupe of Dallas has been named chairman for the fifteenth annual Brotherhood Week observance sponsored by the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Announcement came from Robert F. Patterson former secretary of war national Brotherhood Week chairman who asked Governor Beauford J. Jester to serve as honorary Texas chairman. The effort promotes understanding justice Amity and civic cooperation among Protestants Catholics and Jews with programs planned across Texas during February 22 29.
The Carrollton American Legion post held a meeting at the Coloma office last week to discuss the California Gold Cent stamp. Members were asked to bring their wives, and the gathering highlighted local stamp interest and community activity surrounding the new issue.
State comptroller George T. Sheppard reports Texas spent 33 cents of every tax dollar on public education for grade to university levels, while pensions rose and highways consumed 40 cents. Total state expenditures grew, but education’s share held near 38 percent of the budget. Charles H. Tennyson notes education must rise without sacrificing other services. about 1.5 million school children and 30,000 university students are affected, with thousands of teachers and staff supported by state funds.
The March of Dimes fundraiser will be held Saturday night in the Carrollton High School gym. A light, community party features square dancing and a modern set, with free will admission to support the local campaign.
William J. Rogers of the Wage and Hour and Public Contracts Divisions announced that under the revised Occupations Order No. 4, no minor under 18 may be employed in pulpwood, cordwood, and related logging work across the Southwest. The rule, effective February 2, allows few exceptions such as office work, camp living quarters maintenance, forest protection, and certain yard duties, with age certificates urged to prove compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act.
In Austin, Feb 6, Dr George W. Cox warns motorists and commercial drivers to inspect exhaust systems for leaks to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning during cold weather. Warming up cars in garages increases risk. leaks from manifolds, mufflers, and heater connections can cause headaches, fatigue, and other symptoms. Truck drivers on long drives are especially vulnerable.

A formal opening for the Homer E Clayton Motor Co building drew over 300 guests from across the state. The event featured interior décor with wedding-like flowers, Ford display cars in back, and film showings by Jamison. Officials from Ford Motor Co attended to wish success to Mr and Mrs Clayton. The program included door prizes won by CH Sewell and Mrs T G Johnson, with music by Semele and Shekilles.
