Fire Damages Carlisle Business District Building Row
Sunday night a major fire destroyed a row of frame buildings facing the Carlisle school, causing about 30000 in losses with numerous businesses affected. Charles Mathias and Jack Dunning were arrested on arson charges, with bail set at 1000 each, and trial scheduled for January 16.

Squires Courts Busy With A Week Of Small Cases
In Carlisle two courts handled a string of minor actions. Charles Mathias charged William Willis with misappropriating firm funds after a recent partnership split. Willis posted bond and the case paused as Mathias faced arson charges. the arson case led to the dismissal when Mathias failed to appear. Harry J. Swartz, newly arrived from Sullivan, assaulted O. Minor after a shop dispute and pleaded guilty to assault with a $5.50 fine. Swartz then faced a separate charge from Willis for selling beer to Minor on December 12. Willis claimed not guilty and was bound over with a $100 bond. Minor later attached Swartz’s goods for $15.
