A speaker credits the Safe Deposit Box for saving the last inventory and other valuable papers, preventing possible ruin. The preserved documents would help adjust insurance if destroyed, avoiding severe financial trouble.
Thieves forced entry to J. F. Alumbaugh & Co hardware store Thursday night stealing apparel from salvaged stock, razors, and watches. Fragments of old clothing found near Carlisle mill Friday morning. Two strangers seen near the depot Thursday evening and again Friday early hours. one wore new clothing. They disappeared along the E T H right of way. Police notified along southern towns but no trace yet.
Miss Edith Alsop of Vincennes spent Friday and Saturday visiting Miss Tillie Pilmer in town, enjoying the weekend together and hospitality.
Miss Lora Gray of Terre Haute spent Friday to Monday visiting Miss Julia Schu, enjoying a short social stay with the friend in town.
The Carlisle board of trustees and many residents consider using electricity for lighting. Sullivan County Electric Company proposes arc street lights at 65 dollars per year per unit plus day and night service. A mass meeting with company officials and Carlisle citizens is expected to decide on rates and adoption.
Miss Addie Brown resumed her teaching duties in Cass township schools on Sunday after spending the holidays at home with her parents J. M. Brown and wife.
Deputy Prosecutor Charles E. Bedwell held a court of inquiry before Justice Robert Kirkham in Sullivan to gather more evidence on the Carlisle arson case. Over a dozen Carlisle witnesses attended, including Mrs C. B. Willis and others, with Mathias and Dunning absent and alibi or defense narratives cited.
Mrs James H Black died at her home about ten miles northeast of Carlisle on December thirty first after a short pneumonia illness. Born in Uniontown Pennsylvania on April nineteenth eighteen forty, she moved to Indiana about twenty years ago. She joined the Norwich Ohio Presbyterian church at sixteen and lived a devout Christian life. Survived by her husband a son Or A Black of Effingham Illinois and a daughter Mrs W F Nieste of Carlisle. Funeral at Carlisle Presbyterian church conducted by Rev Elliott H Whittaker, interment in IOOF cemetery.
At a special Carlisle Board of Trustees meeting held in Arthur D. Cutler's law office Friday night, the town treasurer Clifford M. Orr's report was approved by the board. The report is printed elsewhere in this issue.
Schroeder and Goedeke request all debtors call and settle by cash or note by January 15, 1911. They seek to close their books by that date and thank customers for past and future favors.
