Mrs Lloyd Died From Stroke At Home

Mrs. Lloyd, a respected farmer’s wife living four miles east of Carlisle, died Saturday after a stroke. She had been in good health and suffered the attack while milking. burial followed at the local cemetery. An obituary notes her children Evan of Lamar and Rena preceded her, with survivors including husband Arch and siblings Mrs Mary Orr and Mrs Emma McFarland.

Red Cross Drive Nears 100 Percent in Two Townships

The Red Cross drive in Haddon and Jefferson townships closed Monday night with 432 new members, about 700 short of last year’s total. No report from Jefferson township was received, and organizers plan to continue the drive until enrollment hits 100 percent.

Nelson Schroeder of Terre Haute recently discharged from the S A T C in Terre Haute spent Sunday with his parents Mr and Mrs Fred W Schroeder in town.

Carlisle Schools Reopen After Influenza Delay

Carlisle schools resumed Monday after a three week delay due to influenza. About five cases are in town, no spread danger is feared, and daily classes continue through holidays unless conditions worsen. No public gathering bans or store restrictions remain in effect.

New Wash House at Chicago Carlisle Coal Company Mine

The new miners wash house was completed last week and began use Monday morning. Built on the site of the former wash house, which burned Friday morning November 22, the modern building reflects substantial replacement work for the mine community.

Rains Flood Busseron Creek Blocking Sullivan Carlisle Road

Heavy rains last week caused Busseron Creek to overflow its banks and halt traffic on the Sullivan Carlisle road north of Paxton for several days. Waters have receded and crop damage is believed minimal.

Local Christmas Visits Across Indiana Homes

George A Ridgway spent Sunday in Vincennes. Mrs George Troutt of Terre Haute is visiting here with her parents Mr and Mrs George Robbins. Mr and Mrs John Connaughton went to Washington for a several days visit. George Knotts, stationed at Camp Sherman Ohio, came Tuesday to spend Christmas with his parents Mr and Mrs Chas Knotts.
