Louis J. Kixmiller, cashier of the Peoples State Bank, made a business trip to Vincennes on Wednesday.
William Hamke 45 a Freelandville resident was arrested for arson after confessing to fire setting at his brother in law Ed Mengedote's barn. The fire caused about 600 dollars in losses with two hogs killed. Hamke pleaded not guilty at Knox Circuit Court and bond was set at 1000 dollars. Continuation noted on page 4.
The influenza ban is lifted as Carlisle and surroundings return to normal. Stores may open late or early, masks are no longer required in public, churches lodges and schools reopen. Schools will start again Monday December 28 with continued caution urged by Dr. C. E. Whipps.
A movement to stage a large Fourth of July celebration and barbecue in Carlisle next July 4 in honor of Sullivan county Soldier and Sailor Boys. Initiated by Frank B. Ridgway and Salathiel Boone, prominent Haddon Township farmers. a planning meeting will be held soon and all interested are urged to attend.
Mr. Ed W. Akin and wife and Miss Bereniece McConnell of Carlisle are in Long Beach California and registered at the Kennebec Hotel. They plan to spend the winter in the seaside city.
A letter from Lieut. Julian Pirtle says he is walking with a cane and will visit neighboring towns on two day passes. He states his headquarters for the winter will be Coblenz Germany.
Jess McCarter son of Mr and Mrs John McCarter of south of town has been reported missing in action his name appeared in the list published on Friday December 18th Relatives have learned nothing more definite at this time.
Garrett Sheetz held the third trick operator job for the C. and E. I. at Poplar Street Terre Haute spent Sunday here with friends.
