Indiana Public Depositories Law Creates County Boards of Finance
The 1007 Indiana legislature enacted a public depositories law effective Sunday December 1. Counties organize boards of finance with the county auditor as secretary, meetings open to the public, and advisory supervision over public funds. Cities towns school boards and townships form boards of finance with secretaries from city clerks. Depositories are banks or trust companies meeting state exam requirements, open for proposals, may be multiple and funds divided, with interest rates from two to three percent.
