Will Brown left Monday for Denver Colorado and paused in Wichita to visit M F Gregg and a family. Mrs Laurel Bennett returned Sunday to Farmersburg after visiting her parents James M Brown and wife.
A new law effective November 1 requires gasoline, naptha and ben goin to be sold and kept only in vermilion red cans, casks or packages with the contents stenciled. Delivery to consumers must be in red containers and refilling from other containers is unlawful.
Provisions take effect after December 1 107 governing how many road districts per township and rules for electing a road supervisor. Requirements include residency and voter eligibility, notice postings, and the election board structure with inspectors and clerks serving without pay.
Carlisle merchants report heavy arrivals of Christmas goods with a larger and better line than ever. The News urges shoppers to buy early in Carlisle to ensure a full selection and avoid the day before rush.
Mrs. Lou Purcell traveled to Carlisle on Saturday to visit her parents Mr and Mrs John Bailey. The brief item appears in the Sullivan Times edition for Monday.
Purdue University School of Agriculture opens free annual scholarships to Indiana farm youth via county farming organizations and clubs. Winter courses begin January 20 and last eight weeks, covering agriculture horticulture animal industry and dairying, with options for young men and women including household economy.
The Thursday Club met November 21 at Mrs. Jim Mc Connell’s home. Officers elected for the ensuing year are Pres. Mrs. G. A. Ridgway, Vice Pres. Mrs. J. J. Keys, Sec. Mrs. L. J. Kixmiller, and Treas. Mrs. B. B. Evans. The group plans a December 5th event at Pilmer Ridgway’s hall and enjoyed coffee and wafers after the meeting.
Spencer clerk at Roeder and Co and Miss Bertha Lucas quietly married Tuesday in Terre Haute where the bride has studied music for a year. She is daughter of Mr and Mrs Benjamin Lucas of Jefferson township Sullivan county. Groom is son of Thomas Spencer of Sullivan county. They will live in Sandborn with friends' best wishes.
Miss Cora Ferguson entertained about 16 of her young friends Saturday evening at her brother Nathan Ferguson's home on Harrison Street. The gathering featured conversation and various games with fudge and taffy served to guests.
J. H. Hanning, former EL and T operator from here to Sullivan, who was locked in a freight car by robbers at dawn on November 20 after they looted the depot money drawer, has resigned his post and will seek another line of work.
Mr and Mrs R O Willard and their son Don will depart next Sunday night for New Smyrna Florida and will remain there for the rest of the winter.
