State Convention of Delta Kappa Gamma Attends Idaho

About 100 women educators from Idaho gathered in Soda Springs June 11 and 12 for the 31st annual Delta Kappa Gamma Alpha Nu State convention. Iota Chapter hosted with Franklin and then counties. Miss Blanche Senft directed plans. local arrangements by Miss Henrietta Hogan and Mrs. Mary Nielson. International President Mary Francis White attended along with Elsie Lindgren and Irene Smith. The event featured workshops, a Founder's ceremony, Necrology, Birthday Luncheon, and the President's Banquet. Officers for 1971 73 were installed with Ruth Jones named president and Henrietta Hogan as first vice president.

Stringham Brothers Win Soda Springs Junior Golf Crown

Dan and Lynn Stringham, sons of Bruce and Mrs Holladay of Soda Springs, won both divisions of the Soda Springs Junior Golf Championship. Dan posted 42 38 80 to win the 16 17 year old group, while Lynn carded 98 to claim the 15 and under division. Runner up in the older group was Craig Rasmussen with Miles Stephens third. In the younger division Doug Horsley was second and Enc Matthews third.

Scholarship Awarded to Phyllis S. Tracy

Phyllis S. Tracy a Pingree Elementary first grade teacher won the state Delta Kappa Gamma scholarship at the Soda Springs Convention. An eight year Wayan School veteran, she plans to pursue a master’s at Idaho State University and previously earned the $775 Right to Read grant for classroom materials.

Parade Entries Sought for Soda Springs Centennial

Japanese boy walks Oregon Trail in Summer

Takashi Okada a 22 year old Japanese student and former scout from Tamagawa University plans a walking trek along the Oregon Trail. He aims to reach Soda Springs by mid June and finish by August carrying a scroll inscribed with town names and seals. He speaks fluent English but seeks patient conversation.

Slashed Treeova: Caribou Court House Spruce Rebounds

October 29, 1970, Caribou County saw vandals topple a spruce in front of the county courthouse. The tree survived with an extension agent’s wound-sealing treatment and a steel jacket from the city for Christmas lights. New shoots appear on every branch, raising hopes the tree lives on. suspects remain at large.

Mrs. Russell Tigert, Red Cross Blood Chairman, received a Boise regional Red Cross letter praising donors from the Soda Springs drive. The letter notes 137 donors with 4 rejected, up from 115 last year, and credits the community for the drive’s success.

Soda Springs minister moderates Idaho Synod meeting

Minister Rev David L. Crawford of Soda Springs Presbyterian Church was elected and served as moderator at the Synod of Idaho meeting in Lewiston from June 11 to 13. Mrs Crawford accompanied him as his spouse. Elders and ministers from Idaho Presbyterian churches attended. Elder Cecil Alldaffer of Soda Springs was elected vice moderator.
