Two Conda Brothers Die in Freezer Tragedy

In Conda Idaho on Thursday brothers Lin Shaffer 7 and Kenneth Lee Shaffer 8 suffocated in a newly purchased 20 cubic foot freezer. The mother began a search at about 4 pm. they were found near 6 pm by their brother. Lin opened the freezer lid, attempts at mouth-to-mouth resuscitation failed, and both boys died en route to Caribou County Hospital in Soda Springs. The family had lived in Conda five years. Funeral services were held in Inkom.

BYU Education Week Planned for Montpelier Stake House

Brigham Young University sponsors a three day Education Week at the Montpelier Stake House starting June 29. Courses include dancing art drama religion music philosophy public speaking and teaching. Monsanto Plant Manager to Attend Columbia University Course

Seven Monsanto executives receive leaves of absence for summer and fall advanced management courses. Frank P. Hendrickson, manager of the Inorganic Chemicals Division at the Soda Springs plant, will study at Columbia University after joining Monsanto in 1950 and rising to his present post in 1959. He earned a civil engineering degree from Alabama in 1949.

Five County Girls Attend Syringa Girls State

Five Caribou County youths join Soda Springs and Grace district students at the 19th Syringa Girls State, June 13 to 19 on the College of Idaho campus Caldwell. Representatives are Sue Stoker Heidi Weaver Luan Taylor Gay Bennett Jeanette Call. sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary units and Posts 61 and 62. The program aims to teach high school girls about citizenship and government duties rights and responsibilities for adulthood.

Tamara Maynard Earns Diploma at Stevens-Henager

Tamara Maynard of Soda Springs attended a program at Stevens-Henager College in Salt Lake City on Friday June 1 where she received her diploma for completing the Nancy Taylor Charm Course. She also earned two achievement awards for comptometer and bookkeeping machines work and plans summer study toward an Executive Secretarial Degree.

Mrs Della Britenbeker of Soda Springs was installed as State President of the Idaho Business and Professional Women’s Clubs at the two day Twin Falls convention. Ora Lansberry was named state magazine editor and Helen Kingsford state corresponding secretary. Correction on Soda Springs patrol car lease figures

The Sun corrects last week's report on the Soda Springs police department patrol car lease. The lease term remains 18 months. the total amount is $1684.00 with monthly payments of $66.00. The earlier figure of $6750 was an approximate monthly payment and incorrect.

Idaho's State Tax Collector announces completion of about 8,000 applications for permits to engage in business under the Idaho Sales Tax Act. The act takes effect July 1 1965 and sellers must display a permit at each business location.

Leavitt Receives Degree From Utah State University

Michael Leavitt of Soda Springs graduated June 5 with a Bachelor of Science in broadcasting and business from Utah State University. Attending the ceremonies were his wife Lanette and his Soda Springs-based parents. He began studies in 1962 and was active in the campus Radio Club, serving as chief announcer, and produced two TV shows with KUSU-TV after two years at Idaho State University.

Gene Fullmer to Speak at Seven-Stake Youth Conference

Former world middleweight boxing champion Gene Fullmer will speak at a seven-stake Youth Conference in Preston Idaho June 25 26 27. Betty Kilpack of the YWMLA will moderate panels and a World of Sports session features Fullmer for Mia Maids Explorers and Laurels. The event, planned by stake youth with MIA advisors, draws about 2200 attendees to the Oneida Franklin and Preston sites.

County Fair Board Sets Policy for Grounds

The Caribou County Fair Board announced immediate rules requiring removal of all non county livestock or equipment from the fair grounds. They also stated the grounds will be locked at all times and not used without consent of the chairman or secretary.

Enlists in Navy Ronnie Lindstrom Joins Service in Boise

Ronnie A. Lindstrom son of Mr and Mrs Albin Lindstrom of Wayan Idaho enlisted in the U S Navy at Boise on May 14 and was sent to the Naval Training Center San Diego for nine weeks of training. Miss Caribou To Compete In State Pageant

Miss Caribou County Tody Rhead will travel to Boise to represent the area in the Miss Idaho Pageant a three night event with two competition nights Thursday and Friday and a Saturday finals. Chet Moulton urges locals to plan the weekend and attend with special blocks available if requested by June 18. Tickets range from 50 cents to $3 with group seating via Seth Bailey of the Bancroft Lions Club.
