Highway Board Studies Soda Springs Overpass and Main Street

Caribou County State Representative Robert W. Hubbard and City Councilman Arthur Kelly urged the State Highway Board in Boise to approve an overpass over the railroad in Soda Springs and to improve Main Street. Board Chair R Doyle Symms said a July traffic study would assess current and projected growth to guide decisions.

BYU Education Week Plans For Montpelier Session

Brigham Young University will sponsor a three day Education session in Montpelier starting Tuesday June 29 with an entry fee of 4 dollars. Courses cover art religion music philosophy literature and more eight hours daily. The theme is The Fine Art of Living. Lynn McKennely will speak all three days. Record Storage In Bear Lake Protects Water Supply

Farmers and water users on the Bear River in southeastern Idaho gain drought protection due to high runoff and near record Bear Lake storage. Utah Power & Light reports the lake's largest 50 year rise from winter lows and expects filling within a foot to a foot and a half of capacity, with flood runoff stored for irrigation and power downstream.

Bear Lake irrigation project fuels regional agriculture

A shallow water body north of Bear Lake must be kept higher to enable gravity flow into Bear Lake. For over a century the project has prevented flood damage and supplied irrigation water to thousands of acres in Southeastern Idaho and parts of Utah. In 1919 the Agriculture Department valued crops saved at 5 million dollars, with additional multi million dollar savings in 1934 from released Bear Lake water through pumping, canals, and utility systems.

Soda Springs Plans Two Day Fourth of July Celebration

Soda Springs schedules a two day Fourth of July observance with July 4 hosting the Phosphate Cup Regatta on Alexander Reservoir featuring 60 racing hulls across 11 classes in 22 races. The event, aided by local firms, runs a three hour show. July 5 presents Lions Chuck Wagon Breakfast and a parade. Parade prize money totals 105 with 20 first and 15 second per class across Religious Organizations and Business.

Loan Granted For REA Lines

Washington congressman George Hansen announced a $779000 Rural Electrification Administration loan to Lower Valley Power and Light Inc of Afton Wyoming. The funds finance 13 miles of distribution lines serving 186 new consumers a 7500 KVA mobile substation and system improvements in Bonneville and Caribou counties Idaho.

Little League Schedule and New Team Added

The schedule lists Fowler's, Monsanto, City Drug, Horner's, Wells Cargo, and D. & D. Drive-in as six teams with a new sponsor D. & D. Drive-in. Red Cross Bloodmobile to Visit Soda Springs High

The Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit Soda Springs Junior High School on Thursday July 1 from 1 00 to 5 00 p m. People aged 18 to 60 are urged to donate a pint of blood. Donors under 21 need parental consent. The hospital processes and administration are charged, not the blood. Babysitting will be provided during the donation.
