Cattle and Sheep Move Onto Summer Range in Soda Springs

Ranger Roy Daniels says cattle and sheep from 48 ranchers begin grazing in the Soda Springs District of Caribou National Forest, with about 2500 cattle and 24000 sheep to use the allotments. The season peaks after July 4, and livestock are counted as they enter. Cooperation to keep gates closed helps prevent drift and ensures proper distribution.

Mrs Mae Jams of Soda Springs is appointed Caribou County Home Extension Agent by the University of Extension Service. Williams brings 20 years in home economics education in Rockland Soda Springs and Ameri Idaho. She and her husband Ellis L Williams reside in Soda Springs. Her goals center on helping families and homemakers through 4 H Youth programs fair standards and camps. She has held memberships in BPW Idaho Vocational Home Economics Association and the American Home Economics Association.

Postmaster At Bancroft Dies Of Heart Attack

John Harold Toolson 64 longtime Bancroft resident and postmaster died Monday morning from an apparent heart attack. He was born December 28 1902 in Turner Idaho and lived most of his life in Bancroft except for years in Ashton. He leaves a widow two sons and four grandchildren and was a charter Bancroft Lions Club member and active in LDS Church. Funeral services Thursday at 1 pm in the LDS Chapel with burial in Bancroft cemetery.

Glenn Joseph Spackman 47 of Soda Springs died early Tuesday at Caribou County Hospital from a stroke. Born Feb 6 1920 in Preston he worked as an accountant for Amalgamated Sugar and Monsanto. Funeral Friday at 1:00 p.m. in Idaho with burial in Whitney cemetery.

Soda Springs Men Named To Air Pollution Control Board

Governor Don Samuelson appointed five Soda Springs men to Idaho's newly autonomous Air Pollution Control Commission. The group includes Dr. Melbourne L. Jackson, J Richard Torgesen, Perry Warner, Robert Montgomery, and Virgil Farner, with Montgomery and Farner as Democrats. The commission oversees pollution controls across the state and has ties to local industry including Monsanto in Soda Springs.

Soda Springs Receives 15000 Federal Sewer Grant

Soda Springs gains a $15,000 Federal Water Pollution Control Administration grant covering half the $50,000 cost to build a 10 inch gravity interceptor sewer. The new line serves northeast Soda Springs and links at 4th East Hooper and 2nd East 2nd South streets, replacing an outdated interceptor. Mayor Chris Phelps notified of the approval.
